Yahoo Toolbar with WebRank (yawn)

http://edit.companion.yahoo.com/?.cpdl=b543

Sigh...the search engines are disappointing me right and left today. Now Yahoo has WebRank on its toolbar, and it is the same kind of thing as Alexa. i.e....from yahoo's help page...

To help determine a site's Yahoo! Web Rank value, the Yahoo! Companion Toolbar collects anonymous URL data about sites visited by Toolbar users who have enabled the Yahoo! Web Rank feature and sends this information back to Yahoo!. The Toolbar does not collect personally identifiable information about you (e.g., your name, phone number, email address, etc.).

The gurus at the search engines just aren't impressing me lately.

nah, would just appreciate an original thought now and then as opposed to a copycat of alexa, and a toolbar web rank that means something, as opposed to one that can be manipulated. although...i could use a new toaster.

And for those of you that want to check your Yahoo WebRank without the toolbar, I made a tool to do it this morning:

Amen Shawn! Thanks for the tool. The more ways to get around using pointless toolbars the better!

I got really bored and just added the output to display as a graphic (similar to the one on the yahoo toolbar). Dumb little programming exercise for generating graphics.

Shawn, out of curiousity have you noticed any inregularities in the Yahoo WebRank? Its reporting seems similar to Alexa, so I would gather webmaster sites would be more inclined to have a higher webrank. However I ran through a bunch of sites and this is not the case. Might be a bit to early until they can get some long term data factored in.

I think it's like a cross between PageRank (where it looks at link popularity) as well as visitors who have the toolbar installed... But have not yet been able to confirm that.

hey dazzlin .... people capible of thinking on their own ... do NOT get jobs for big companies ... they start their own .....

so dont expect any novel ideas from the big companies .... the closest thing they come to a new idea is to buy out a competitor and then get their ideas ....

Yeah, looking into it now... it seems Yahoo might be feeding me some bogus data. Weird thing is for digitalpoint.com (and every sub-page) it's constant.

Mmm, I've the yahoo toolbar running, but it always says "This site is not ranked". Even if I visit yahoo.com. Does the beta mean, it is only collecting data right now, or whats the deal with my toolbar?

Somone needs to make a webmaster tool bar, which displays google/Alexa/Yahoo page Rank,Web Rank and Y! rank and Dmoz info - maybe link pop too.

I just tried it; When I use www.domainename.com I get the same result every time. When using domainename.com, the result keeps changing!
