Yahoo site guidelines - "pages in great quantity"
I was just reading through Yahoo's new site guidelines and I am confused about one of the tips under sites that Yahoo considers unwated. It states:
Pages in great quantity, automatically generated or of little value Does this mean Yahoo frowns upon sites with a great number of pages (I have a few sites with over 25,000 pages each)? Each of these pages has unique content that is automatically generated from a database.

Nope your fine. Yahoo is refeering to doorway pages. Dynamic pages and doorway pages are two different things. Some sites have small sites but load up 1000s of doorway pages that are generated by software. These pages just have certain keywords repeated over and over again that makes no sense to a user but takes advantage of kw density.

Yahoo still doesn't 'like' big sites though.... it can take well over 6 months to get all your pages indexed if they are database generated and changes will take even longer to update.... pain in the b**t really
I am really hoping the new yahoo inclusion system has an affordable option for big sites to make sure the whole site is crawled but unfortunately am already doubting it too. Your best bet is to make sure you have a good site map which is easily accessible with the links to all your automatically generated pages. This will make for some really long site maps though so I am still debating what will be the best option here... Sam

Yeah, I agree with you....Yahoo really needs to make it more affordable for larger sites to get indexed. $25 per URL is absurd for sites with more than a few dozen pages.

But $25 per page would be absurd aswell. If thats the case large sites would have to cough up a small fortune to get indexed. So $25 per URL is my prefeered method. Small sites might take a ding but $25 is comparable to 2 months of hosting. Not a big investment as most would make that back in the first month of being indexed. |

By URL, I meant page. To get listed in Inktomi it's currently around $25 per URL. They consider each page to be a seperate URL. So www.mysite.com/page1.htm is 1 URL and www.mysite.com/page2.htm is a second URL. Each of those would cost $25.

Yeah thats what i figured. So it would cost me $550,000 to get my site completely indexed.
Hence the small fortune. Wouldn't it be funny if they removed all the free Ink indexed pages on April 14th and made you start from scratch on the 15th?? lol I hope not. |
