No 1 in Yahoo after two weeks! Please explain

Some explanation is needed.

I am an old Graphic Designer based on design for print. I have recently started my first Photographic Website I made the site with a Web2 application through a company called ifp3.com followed all the advice I could get about Tags, Meta Tags, Keywords etc etc, some on these forum pages.

I am not an SEO or even a web designer as such but I got to the top of Yahoo!

I have left some screen shots at Dropsend.com Log in with my e-mail address and the password is Password1

Problem is...I have no idea why??? Have I just got lucky?

Could someone give me a clue? (in non tech English please)

Top at Yahoo

You are most undoubtedly correct. I wouldn't know if it was or wasn't. The problem (if it is a problem) seems to be creating the website through the ifp3 application does not allow me to add or create html as I seem to be limited in the choices I have.

The Site is Flash but behind it there are html galleries on the home page which are open to the search engines all tagged and keyworded.

I am not complaining,... far from it, I couldn't be more happy about the position but as I said in my first post I do not have a clue how it happened.

Any thoughts for a complete newbie?

Without looking at your site, I am sure you are top because of one or all of the followimng reasons.

a)You are looking at rankings for a very uncompetitive term that wont get any traffic so you are bound to be top.

b) You are receiving a temporary new site boost

c) As Yahoo favours on-page optimisation more than Google you are top because your on-page optimisation is decent.

Having said all that, given your site is very new you still have alot of work ahead of you to achieve your necessary goals. It's all about getting links now from topically relevant sites, best way to do this is by creating real quality content.

Good Luck

Thanks for the tips

I realise I am just dipping my toes into deep water, but I am just about to start my e-marketing and adding links. There are numerous contradicting posts about the quality of links so I am treading carefully.

The phrase that got me to No 1 was "Photographic Images of China"
which is pretty appropriate for a photographic library of China site just before the Beijing Olympics!, but I do realise I have to have as many phrases as I can.*I think you must be correct about b and c

Thanks for your comments

Any other advice is truly welcome

most probably has to do with your noframe set, a large collection of nothing but keywords, all with china in the name.

All I see on your site with out viewing the source is:

Code:
.">

you definitely need to do something about that b/c even if you are #1 what is the point for visitors?

and while i think your noframe is spamful and I would eliminate frame altogether , here is a more proper markup of your current page as a zip file attachment
Attached Files
File Type: zip china.zip (1.6 KB, 94 views)

Does anyone search Google for Photographic Images of China though?

You need to ensure you are targeting highly relevant keywords that are also searched for enough. Use google adwords keyword suggestion tool for ideas on keywords to target.

It's sometimes much much better to be #1 for a lower keyphrase than on page 14 for a highly competitive one! IMO it is very good to target non-competitive terms to begin as this will yield more visitors per search and higher chances of getting natural backlinks!

Some more explanation. The list in the noframe was made up of the keywording in the EXIF Data on all the images, I then added the word China and pasted it in. Is this spamful? I don't know...I thought it was appropriate, but I may be completely wrong, Is 340 words too much? I thought that's what you did... Thanks for the zip file. Do you mean I should add in the noframes html bit at the bottom of the list?

Yes you are right about the
Code:
.">
I don't know where this has come from, I was trying to modify some bits and pieces on the website a couple of days ago and it looks like I mucked it up. I will try to sort it ASAP

Thanks for your comments

Will have to get back to work

Thanks

It is so strange, but I am a very strict white hat SEO , and I manage to get a site to Google position 1 for a very competitive term that results to such huge amount of traffic.

Seriously, I am not ranking at Yahoo at all (no traffic from the search engine also). And I found Yahoo optimization a much more mysterious thing to do.

Congratulations, you made it. Keep reading SEO chat forums and you will learn more about Google SEO. But it may contradict your Yahoo rankings as I have experienced.

Emerson

Thanks for the comments

As I said in an earlier post I am completely new to this and a lot of this is way over my head at the moment. It seems more akin to witchcraft than any thing I have dealt with before! I have had some success with Google with the same phrases, but with any other engine: MSN, Ask, Excite, Lycos AOL et al ...Zilch-Nada-not a thing!

Weird

Will keep on reading as much as I can
