I believe Yahoo uses a very similar link value criteria to Google, i.e. focused on quality.

A directory listed in a relevant section? or would directory's be seen as bad, because over all, they link to hundreds of different category's, of which 99% are not your subject?

Not all directories are bad - if you pick decent ones you should be fine. I don't know if Yahoo have expressly mentioned directories, but Matt Cutts from Google has been quoted as saying they're ok as long as they have some editorial integrity - i.e. they don't just allow every link that applies to go on the site.

Stands to reason that if they are happy with how a directory is operating it should be able to pass link value.

i think search engines do have the same taste for links - and they give more weight on the quality and relevant ones

If you're going to use directories, find relevant ones that are more towards your niche. IMO directories are a waste of time. Finding links from websites that are sure to bring you traffic are more important.

Yahoo Directory is a good directory, but I still think finding links from other sites is worth more, depending on how good and relevant they are. How much is your time worth? $299/year buys how many hours? If it buys a lot of your time, I would put it towards link building. If you have a budget for directories and such, then it's a must.

Relevant sites that are also doing what you're doing.

Some sites don't want to link to competitors, but if you can find sites in a different country to you that are doing the same thing as yourself. That's a good relevant link.

So start digging!

Post Digging deep into directories

I definently believe the more detailed you are with the category you pick:

1.the lesser the number of outbound links there will be on the page
2.you will get higher targeted traffic

The only real downside to getting an exact category for your link is that with the directory structure most of the pagerank value has been used up.

Whats wrong with that? I think firstly, no incoming link does any harm to you, and if that is relevant with respect to your theme, then its all the more beneficial. Why wouldn't a SE like a relevant link then? Will the SE look upon that link as something too bad coz its relevant??

Anyways finish off with the argument, but what you are saying and what was there in the quoted text in my previous post, didn't seem to match at all. Perhaps i got it wrong if you think so.

I think yahoo prefers those sites who are always updated and those who are rich with relevant content.
