few things that i did consider successful in Y:

1. Paid for yahoo directory (there are saying Y directory will help a little boost on your ranking)

2. Get links - any links will do unlike G need quality links

3. Write more keywords in your content

4. Make the size of your page does not go over 80K (this little consideration for Y)

5. make sure your content absolutely unique

6. use keywords in Img alt

That will just do the trick.

Remember, Yahoo is more of on-page rather than off-page, so keep your titles, description and even Meta keywords according to your targeted keywords [yahoo still considers META keywords in their ranking algorithm]. Organize headers properly and stuff in your keyword/s a little more within your content.

Of course you need links after that...try some directories and link exchanges.

Hmmm great...I removed my META tags because people in this forum told me they were useless...it'll take me ages if I want to put them all back on my pages.

Higher keyword density for Y than G? So how do you satisfy both engines at the same time?

Someone mentioned link quantity over quality for Y? Same deal again isn't it? Start getting bulk dodgey links and Google will punish you wont they?

Correct me if I'm wrong but sounds like the webmaster has to pick a team. Google or Yahoo.

Hate to say it but pay the fee to get into their directory. It works.

Other than that, nothing for sure.

Yahoo! Directory listing definately gives your site a boost. Lots of links with keyword rich anchor text to targeted pages also help the individual pages rank but not the site as a whole.

Strangest one I have found is that if you point a load of weight at a website using an automated link building site (such as Digital Points Ad Network) the page can quickly rank well for the targeted terms even when you switch the automated links off. But by doing this you are risking triggering penalties in Google.

nothing lasts

my experience with Yahoo is that is very unstable, which is similar to my msn experience. I currently get around 1200 uniques a day from google, and about 50 from yahoo, 2 months ago it was 350 from yahoo. It would seem that every few months they do a complete change around. All I do is add pages and links. The old advice of concentrate on google really rings true for me, the other two are just too unstable.

I always optimize sites keeping Google in mind. I have a couple of sites that rank #1 on all the 3 search engines but I get the most traffic from Google.

My advice to you would be to optimize your sites for Google, get some good links. Maintain a proper on-page optimization with titles and headers and you will do well in Yahoo as well.

Don't put your Google ranks at stake for the sake of getting ranks in Yahoo.....it's simply not worth it!

MySpace
One big thing people forget or don't know about with Yahoo is their Paid Inclusion program. This allows you to pay a ppc cost to upload your site's pages into Yahoo's free search. The cost is dependant upon your industry. For example, one of my clients pays $0.26 per click and I spend about $3,500 per month.

But...I heard right from the horse's mouth that Yahoo gives your listing a boost for being part of this program. So what you need to do when you are having trouble with getting good positioning is to check how many sites for a specific search are part of this program...and there is a way to do it...though Yahoo said there was not...or that they would not give out that information.

Go through the serps and copy all the urls (the long one showing in the bottom of your browser when you role over a url) and paste them in notepad or something else. All the url's that have "http://rdre1.yahoo.com/click" hidden in the url are part of the program, the rest will show the actual domain, which means they are not. So if most of the serp listings are part of the program, that could be the reason your not getting good positioning.

Hope this helps!

Yahoo SEO and Alignment

I have found Yahoo works on the basis of alignment.

Get your meta tags, titles and copy all saying the same or very similar things. Its less reliant on inbound links.
