IMO , Yahoo gives importance to Back links , Make Back Links and you will be benefitted in Google as well.

In my observation, once you rank with Google yahoo and other site follow. Point.... yahoo has somehow depend on ranking with google though It's correct that on-page is one factor for yahoo.

Having a listing from yahoo directory surely works, in my experience backlinks are the main factor as well as a good on site optimization

I have a competitor with a site that is 5 weeks old, he is page 2 on Google and top of Yahoo. He only has 5 rec links and not a great deal of content.

Does a new site go to the top and then go down to its correct place over time?

Which Search engine does not gives importance to Backlinks?

Adding to your point, I would say, Build links with typical keyword as an anchor only then they will be pretty effective with Yahoo.

For all my SEO efforts with my blogger blog, I got to number 12 in google and NOTHING in yahoo.

In all my weeks of effort; content, links, and submitting in directories, etc... I never even existed in yahoo!

Odd. And frustrating!

Make a site that's linkworthy, then you'll do good in all the engines, just as long as you let people know about your site. You probably need more authoritative / stronger links pointing to your site. Once you've got them you'll be up there.

Yahoo vs. Google- Who Knows
I currently have sites that are #1 in Yahoo for many keywords and don't even break the first page on google.

The one thing that I think yahoo likes is interlinking of keywords between pages, and having many pages doing this. I believe yahoo sees these links as backlinks for your sites.
