Search engine won't crawl the no follow links on a page and deliver PR to them.But who knows,maybe search engine do this sneakingly.

As far as from knowledge, no follow does not provide back link to your site, if you have submitted a the site URL. But in care of do follow, it provides back link, which is essential to increase the site rank.

The above posts are partly right, but not quite on the ball IMO.

Basically your standard follow link will pass on link juice, where as a nofollow link will not. Google has said they may still follow nofollow links, but they will not pass on any link juice, there for will not be a direct help to your seo.

Still don't by pass all nofollow links as some of them can still be a great help to gaining more traffic and sales. For example, facebook links are nofollowed, but can be a great source for traffic and convert to sales.

It's a signal for search enginebot. You can indicate there which links will be crawl or which one not by rel="no follow"

nofollow means the link has no seo value from that website and dofollow means the link has some seo value from that website
