Visits to thanks page in cookie data is more than the actual emails we received. How?

    Hi

This is how my site works: When you fill the contact form and "send" it, you will go to "thanks" page. So how may unique visits "thanks" page has got is the number of emails we have received. It works fine in Google Analytics.

But when I see cookies data, there are more number visits to "thanks" page. But I have not received that much number of emails.

Why so? What might be an issue? Please help.

    Thanks
    James

Since it's a page I'm going to guess it's from bots.

    Thanks for the reply.

How can we identify bots from cookie data? Any suggestions?

Also "Thanks" page comes only after filling the contact form. Can bots fill the form with junk values? Even if we assume if has filled the form, then we must have got those spam emails, right?

You can directly visit the "thanks" page. You will get redirected to contact page, if u try to do so.

Why I am concerned is because, we cannot miss any emails, right? That's why.

    Please suggest.

depending on how readable your form is to the bots they may be putting invalid data in your form which doesn't get through server side validation and so an email to you is not triggered. I take it the cookie you are referring to is only populated on the thanks page?

Thanks for replying. Cookie has populated many pages of the site and that is usual. But I consider just the "thanks" page now, because my logic is if so many has viewed "thanks" page, then that many emails I should have received, right? Any thoughts on this?
