    Renaming file extention

Can anyone tell me what will be the effect of renaming index.htm to index.php from seo point of view? I want to add some php code to my website’s home page.

It depends: is your homepage indexed WITH or WITHOUT the filename?

Also know that you can use the .htaccess file to make html files behave as php files. Using that trick, you wouldn't have to rename anything.
