    From Dynamic to static

    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a tool to convert a dynamic .asp site to static HTML?

I have a host that wont let me use mod-rewrites or ISAPI filters and dont want to use the 404 trick...

    And i cant change host....

I have used Xbuilder 3.0 before but its no longer available....

    Thanks

    Paul

Doesn't this create duplicate content? Lets say we have a page which is hoteldining.asp?h=2&l=1 which is indexed by G and your app converts this page to html as hoteldining.htm/page1 , which is put on the serps. Wont google find two dup pages? Or have i misubderstood the way it works?

Yes, this product seems to only be for sites that haven't been indexed before. I have raised this issue before as this product is blindly proposed to every person that asks about mod rewrite or changing urls.

It has yet to be addressed.

Mod Rewrite is the better way to go if you are an established site.

Thought so - thanks - we dont need it for our site as all pages get indexed anyway - the SE's seem to be getting very good at this as long as you hardcode the links in a sitemap or somewhere.

Whats wrong with the 404 trick? I have used is on several occassions and it works quite well, just make sure your site only links to your new pages and not the old ones and then do a permanent redirect on your olds ones after a month or so.

I am sorry I didn't explain myself enough. When you convert your site too static then you want to point the code so it only brings up the static pages and not the dynamic ones. It does take a little work after you get the static files but is well worth it in the long run for your site. Mod_rewrite works well also.

Do you provide a tutorial for doing this when someone buys your service luxury? I don't think most newbies would have a clue and would just upload the new urls.

I just think you should always add a disclaimer if you are going to blanket reply to posts that ask for info.

But just my .02 as a member not a moderator.

maddz. Change hosts. If you are going to SEO a site you should find a host that is willing to work with you and setup redirects and such.

I agree with you Jason. SEOChat has always prided itself in helping "newer" SEOs and the last thing we want to see happen is SEOCHat getting flamed for destrying someone SERPs.

    One reason: PR.

If you can point the old pages to the new ones then you're far more likely to pick up PR. You also avoid any temporary dupe penalties by doing this.

Huh? PR isn't affected by the 404 trick, and pointing old pages to new one using a 301 in combination with the 404-trick is piece of cake. What are you talking about?

Exactly. Soon as I have implemented this on a website traffic has gone up.
