Google to offer gigabyte of free e-mail

http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104_2-5182805.html

Google to offer gigabyte of free e-mail
Hotmail presently offers 2MB of free e-mail storage. Yahoo offers 4MB. Gmail will dwarf those offerings with a 1GB storage limit.

Very innovative, but I predict wide abuse by bad people. Google has a good idea, let people use the email forever in this case, more ad impressions = more generated money.

Clever, clever google.

During this testing period, the Gmail interface is only available in English. However, we're committed to making Gmail available to as many people in as many languages as possible. And Gmail accounts can already be used to read and send email in most languages (even Klingon).

It's logical. The ad revenue they will make will offset the cost (what's a gig anyway, $1?) of the storage space 10 times over.

More space, more stored e-mails, more chances for people to click on ads.

It will not take long before Adwords ads displayed in e-mail will outnumber Adwords ads displayed on actual web pages.

yeah, but perhaps we are talking about ad revenue that will have gone to google affiliates? besides, I shudder to think of what will happen if people start seeing adwords ads "everywhere" (search pages, publisher sites, now e-mail).
