Hate Sites Ranks # 1 for "Jew"
The Jewish Journal, which WebProNews links to, states "that Google has no plans to manually alter the results of their ranking system to knock Jew Watch from its top spot." Google responded saying "No, we don’t do that. Google merely reflects what is on the Web and does its best to algorithmically rank pages. Unless [a Web page] violates a country or local law, we don’t make any tweaks."

Agreed. If that was the case we can just ask the FCC (5 60-year-old men) to tell us what to see, hear and do. Funk that. |

if you goto http://www.google.de/ and search for jew you won't find the anti-jewish page. You also don't find it for site:www.jewwatch.com
http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&i...ogle+Suche&meta= But on other European Google's it appears (www.google.it Italy) . So how come Google is treating German searchers differently? |

Specific Sites Excluded from Google.fr and/or Google.de
http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/filter...e/results1.html I'll give you one guess who's on that list?? ;) Seems Google wont alter google.com but all others it will. Interesting. |

but http://www.google.com/intl/bg/ (Bulgaria) http://www.google.sk/ (Slovakia) http://www.google.ro/ (Romania) http://www.google.hu/ (hmm... that's not google's) http://www.google.co.jp/ (Japan) http://www.google.it/ (Italy) don't filter "Mussolini's Italian fascists shared some ideological goals with the German Nazis, and although the Mussolini distrusted Hitler, the two countries formed an agreement that became known as the "Axis" in 1936... Mussolini's Fascist state, established nearly a decade before Hitler's rise to power, would provide a model for Hitler's later economic and political policies" (more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benito_Mussolini) ... surly Italy has laws similar to Germany's in order to prevent racism. But why filter only in Germany (and France thx pk)? Does it have to do with the fact the French and German Goverments can't monitor who access these sites as for example the US could? (paranoid) http://www.fitug.de/debate/0208/msg00420.html ..."If you believe we are unnecessarily filtering material at one of our sites, please let us know and we will re-evaluate the content. Thanks again for taking the time to write us. Regards, The Google Team" so censorship is part of Google's job description. I wonder if there are any sites one can see in Germany & France but not at www.google.com... I am writing them to take this site down http://www.jesusis hitler.com/ (without the space due to seochats censorship or search for hitler) man this site is ![]() Last edited by kevsugo : March 25th, 2004 at 06:29 AM. |

There is a big difference between censorship and a profanity filter. Dont wanna have little kiddies stumble upon seochat and see abunch of swearing.
Censorship is not letting you say what you want to say and hiding it from others. Like deleteing posts because the MODs didn't like what was being said.(which doesn't happen here) Or hiding the truth about something from the masses. |

I guess it is a felony in Germany.
"The Federal Crime Office started clamping down on Internet trading of music inciting neo-Nazis to hate and attack Jews and foreigners in 2001." I'm sure this applies to websites as well not just music. Here's an article article regarding hate music in germany. http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/intern...reut/index.html I guess Google is just following German law. |
