But Yahoo are NOT changing to Inktomi:
"Yahoo is rolling out a brand new search engine today, with its own index and ranking mechanisms" "In a surprising move, Yahoo isn't replacing Google with Inktomi. Rather, the company has developed a brand new search engine" http://www.searchenginewatch.com/searchday/article.php/3314171 |

The results what you see in Yahoo! are sometimes from Google. They are going for Inktomi but still under progress.
Msn has also turned towards Inktomi but by 2006 they will have their own Search Results.... Google sux sometimes because it still supports Spam results, making them rank higher. But what to do, cant ditch our Good old friend ;-)

Does that mean we need a new forum for Yahoo within the Search Engine Forums?

Alta la vista senior Google!
You're witnessing the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire played out in 6 years. Google is being destroyed by its own success and can't last much longer. Its owners know that and so do I. A year from now you'll see a dozen little Mark Cuban clones roaming the earth having left behind a once almighty oracle to crumble away beneath the blades of a new wave of venture hatchet men. Who's up next? Yahoo? Micro$oft? Personally the thought of the world being run any longer by a secret algorithm scares me more than Bill Gates. Only God has that right. The Y & M are too big and too public to hide from accountability. The time for a change is here.

Yahoo is really a small player in search. People check your referral logs, its about 10% of SE referrals for most sites. Google still makes up 80% even without Yahoo.
Yahoo is using their own search technology, it seems to be a mix of Inktomi, Overture and the Y! Directory. Still a bit messy for some keywords. |

ah, Rusty, you need to have vision. (no disrespect intended). yes, yahoo referrals are much smaller than google referrals, but for me, they are climbing rapidly. and many seo's are geared up to promote using yahoo over google to all their friends and family. don't be surprised if the figures creep up and up very soon. of course, i could be wrong, but i'm optimistic.

So how do you optimize for this "new" Yahoo...like you did for the pre-florida google?
I agree with Dazzlindonna, I would love a keyword ranking tool for Yahoo, even if it doesn't bring as much traffic as google. |
