New Yahoo Search

Atfer much trial and tribulation, the new Yahoo search seems to be in full working order ... great to have some competition for Google!

It looks like it's a mix of Inktomi stuff plus the Yahoo directory plus their own search algo.

Gringo.

Yep. I noticed that Yahoo is now 8% of my traffic from the usual 20%. I rank extremely well too! Might have been a bumpy switch. Awesome!

No, it isn't just Inktomi, but certainly Ink is providing much of the database. This is also borne out by the fact that PositionTech (Inktomi's main PFI partner), have included this notice ...

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT INKTOMI SEARCH SUBMIT:
Yahoo! Search has transitioned to its own search technology and is preparing to launch a new inclusion program. As a bonus for Search Submit customers, Yahoo! Search is providing a free trial of Yahoo! traffic that will end on April 15, 2004. When the new inclusion program launches, Search Submit customers will have the option of joining the new program for ongoing participation in Yahoo! Search results.

Well, unfortunately, I feel like I just wasted a lot of money. Just one month ago I signed up 5 sites to Inktomi PFI in anticipation of the Yahoo! change over. Now I find that after April 15th, these sites will NOT be included in Yahoo!

I may have earmarked them for exclusion by paying when they may have found their way there on there own. Now they will definately be dropped if I don't ante up.

I believe that after April you can also have them included in Yahoo by purchasing an additional Yahoo option.

Just thought I would make note, Yahoo! search results and indexing is all over the place.

Yesterday morning 12 pf my webpages where indexed, last night it was back down to 4 and now again today its back up to 14.

I think Yahoo! must be doing on-going work on the search engine technology..
