I would definitely look into submitting a product data feed to Froogle (it is free). The products submitted via data feed always show up at the top of Froogle SERPs ahead of products that are naturally "plucked" from ecommerce sites. As for optimizing, I would use the same strategies you use for regular Google SEO. The Froogle rankings are tied into your site's position in the Google index. For instance, if you rank ahead of a particular site for keyword A in Google, you will rank ahead of them for keyword A in Froogle. The reverse is also true--If you rank lower than a particular site for keyword A in Google, you will also rank lower than them in Froogle (provided that your site and their site both submit product data feeds.)
This info is based on my own personal experience with Froogle. Right now I maintain Froogle feeds for 8 separate sites. When analyzing their rankings in both Froogle and Google for their optimized keywords, I have found the above formula to be true. If anyone else has had a different experience with Froogle rankings, I'd be interested in hearing about it! Hope this info helps! -Laura

I'm curious to hear from e-commerce site owners about their froogle experiences. Do they get much traffic from them, and do they convert well? I am very busy with many things, and i'm just trying to decide if creating a data feed for froogle should be near the top of my to do list, or can it wait for 2-3 months. Thanks in advance for any input.

If you submit a datafeed the content of your site does not factor into your ranking. Instead your ranking is determined by the content of your data feed. The title of your listing and the exact text of your item description are the important things.
There might be a correlation between froogle rankings and SERP rankings simply because they are probably done by the same experienced person. However, I have good rankings at froogle on a site that is NOT in the google index. BTW... in Froogle, really your rankings might get you noticed initially, however you will not sell a damn thing unless you are low price seller or have unique product. So if you don't have low price you can probably spend your SEO time more wisely on other projects. I have lots of items in froogle - those where I have unique merchandise and those where I am low price seller account for ALL of my froogle sales. |

egol is absolutely right, and let me add, there is a way to optimize for Froogle. Froogle combines items with the same title as one item. It combines the rankings for duplicate items into one. The more variations you have of an item therefore, all having the same title, but different description/qty and price, will produce you one item with a saturated ranking. I've tested with them for a while and am sure this is how it works. As far as how they rank on top of searches, here is what they do. They select a low, middle, and high range for the top 3. When I say low middle and high I mean price range. They pick the "best match" from these 3 ranges and display them in order of lowest price to highest price. Try it for yourself |

Syragon, that is good info and checking my listings - the all seem to be working this way.
I spent a lot of time making variants of 50 different products in the same product line and only one of them made it into froogle - so i rebuilt it into ONE generic listing and it is doing great. If you are low price seller for that item in froogle I am betting that you get nearly ALL of the purchases made through that gateway. |

Great info, Syragon. Thank you.
Egol - not following you. Did you reduce the 50 items to one line in your feed or did you change the name of all 50 items to be the same name, resulting in 50 lines but 1 higher ranking item? aaron |

Reduced the 50 items to just one - but put the most important keywords for the 50 in my product description.

Am I hearing this correctly....?
Your feed does not have to actually reflect the content on your site? Is it not stated in the Froogle Feed Directions that your data feed content must match the content on your product pages? Great post here...I have been trying to understand why one particular product feed is not performing well when, in fact, it is the most relevant and affordable listing set in Froogle.. decaff |

Fun With Froogle
Froogle Froogle Froogle- its all about titles, descriptions, reviews and prices.
Froogle sorts by price - manipulate your products to reflect great prices. Don't forget "free shipping" |
