DazzlinDonna - Survived Katrina, Is OK
I just heard from Donna's sister that she is alive and OK in Louisiana. Her home was very hard hit by the storm and she was evacuated, but is alive and well, according to the e-mail.
I've posted about it here - www.seomoz.org/blogdetail.php?ID=370 If you're considering making a donation or helping out, try network for good. Last edited by Jasontnyc : August 31st, 2005 at 12:19 PM. Reason: Made links live - Donna is very appreciated here and a live link is certainly acceptable in these circumstances |

That is good to hear, there are terrible pictures we see on TV now. I wish all you that have been hit by this disaster the best.

Very glad to hear that. Been concerned. My coworker here is from the town where Katrina hit Louisiana. The town has been wiped off the map. huge disaster.
Look forward to hearing back from DD.

i feel really bad for the people who tried to leave, but couldn't get out. also many of the elders decided it was 'just another hurricane' and thought they could ride it through.... best wishes to everyone affected.

Glad to hear she and her family are OK. She's always been generous with time and advice, and I hope that karma comes around when they are able to get back into their home.

Rand,
This is great news. I purchased my first news paper today in ..months - same with watching the news tonight....months... This was after hearing on the radio this morning just how bad this stuff is. They aren't over stating this time. This is way bad...... With fuel issues, it's gonna get worst for everyone else around the country to. We are all going to feel the effects of this tragedy. I hope all have called, mailed or given a donation to the Red Cross from Food and Water to just cash. Please, give what you can, even if it's just five bucks. That's a couple dinners that some family in need gets to eat. Stock up yourself on fuel....this will get worse before it gets better I fear. Also, I think they need some server contributions as well... https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp

g - The Red Cross is a great place to start. I'm putting 100% of earnings this week from SOCEngine & SEOmoz towards it - it's not a ton, but we've been doing well lately and there's folks who desperately need that money.
In terms of economic impact, my understanding is that unless things get much worse in terms of oil distribution (which is unlikely at this point), the economy of the US and the fuel problems will be short lived and may even improve (as re-building often brings with it a nice growth in productivity and GDP). So - DON'T stock up on fuel, there's no need and it will only create short-term gaps that could lead to panic. Wiser is to simply be frugal with gas expenditure for the next 1-2 weeks and re-assess the situation. I'd like to see more folks putting their online resources to good use. I'd be happy to link to and mention anyone who is, so let me know. |

Very very true... i finally got through to the red cross website and made my donation... damn - it was bogged down all day. it's too bad they don't accept paypal.. i could've been in/out in half the time - maybe someone should setup a paypal donation area and push the $ to redcross. (actually - now that i think about it, i bet they already exist...) |

I'd like to do it via Paypal as well, and apparently so would many others - http://forums.ebay.com/db1/thread.j...d=1125535593010
For the moment it appears not to be possible, but hopefully very soon it will be. If anybody knows of anything, please post it here. |
