Yahoo "Sandbox"
I set up this golf course site for the Cincinnati area and am ranking #1 in MSN for Cincinnati Golf and Cincinnati Golf Courses, which is what I am going for.
I know Google has the sandbox and I'm not worried about getting listed there right now. Yahoo, which I can usually dominate is yet to list me in the serps. My site is indexed and the spiders are there daily. What do you think the problem is? Is there now a new site penalty or are they just slow? |

I dont think there is any new site penalty in Y! A new site of mine ranks well for most of the words.

yup, I don't think so either. I don't know what's the problem with your site though (except just low serps). keep us updated on your situation. ;)

How old is your site? More exactly ... when was it firstlty indexed by Yahoo!?
You know, Yahoo! can either make your wait a few months in nowhere and then BOOM, you get a top spot or if you're lucky ( but this happens quite rare ) you can get top spots in just a few weeks.

Yep it is. A week or so ago i created a blog and it got top rankings. However, all of my latest sites have yet to be even spidered by Yahoo. They have some decent backlinks (not too many ;)) yet Y! doesnt want to know.

I would support the yahoo sanbox. I had a site that was nowhere to be found on yahoo for months. I changed NOTHING and during the last date all my keywords jumped into the first couple of pages.

I am recently experiencing somewhat of a sandbox effect with yahoo with new clients just like you described. #1 in MSN, after a couple weeks, nothing from google, that's fine and understood, but still nothing from yahoo - okay, back to the drawing board or is it them? In time we'll find out as future threads develop.

I still can't agree with this "Yahoo! Sandbox Theory" cuz I can see new site jumping at the top of the SERPs ... yet it can be brought in front for other discussions but it would be preferable that these discussions to be based on real facts, observations, self-experiences ...

I have been experiencing the a Google Sandbox like effect with Yahoo for one of my new sites.
I personally do believe that the sandbox effect exists for Y as well. Mind you, it wasn't as drastic as the G sandbox.

The response that I am getting in the other forums is that Yahoo penalizes new sites if they have too many backlinks. My site was launched with over 50,000 backlinks to it, so that may be the problem

Yahoo sand box does not exisit
Yahoo does not keep new site waiting.
it still uses directory structure. Sand box is only for sites craving for msn and google. I have recently seen keywords from zero ranking to page 7 . |

Now, what site in this world would have 50K backlinks at the launch? Probably your site triggered some filters but IMHO this cannot be considered as an evidence of the suposed "Yahoo! Sandbox" |

Something is going on...
In regards to a potential Yahoo sandbox of some sort. I am now seeing evidence of this. People should remember that it may very well be only certain keywrd phrases that are being targeted (something like what happens with one of Google's filters). This would explain why some sites are experiencing it and not others.
Again- I do think the evidence suggests some sort of filter is being applied in some instances for newer sites in Yahoo.

I think Yahoo is just flaky about updating their index (adding new pages that is).
