What is the main (list just one please) factor for you when deciding to list or not to list your website in a directory?

Seriously. Some dirs use a very limited template - without even a cat for indoor sports or whatever. They disappoint me

If my sites will be surrounded by similar sites. I agree with WIT that some directories categories are not specific enough and your site could end up with non-related sites. If my KW's are in the title of the page that great for me.

Still, some dirs are nice enough for me to have my table tennis site show up in the tennis category. But only if it's a well-known big one, or a friend's. Then again if it's a real friend he/she will make a tt cat for me. Jason did - he's cool

Another thing that REALLY puts me off is a gaudy or jaggy logo. IMO there's a strong correlation between dir and logo quality. Again: I'm not kidding.

I can't agree more, and I would add that directory design is very important to me. I mean if they don't have time, money and talent to put a good looking site together what else could you expect.

I remember a SEO-guy forum thread about the "best looking dir" on the web. Of course: beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but on the whole most people appeared to be sensitive to the dirs' designs.

Hello Lici. One of the first things I check is if the page I would be on is cached by Google. Also that it gives a clean link.

I have multiple sites, the answer is different for each site.

Traffic if the site needs traffic (I got good traffic from some directorie with jump links)
PR if the site needs PR
Relevance if the site needs relevance boost
Static links if the site needs to boost # of links.
