Finally, the secret to Google rankings revealed
I recently came across the following domain
http://www.1radio-remote-control-cheap-car-airplane-boat-truck-helicopter.com/ I can't believe I didnt think about doing that!! I would be real amazed if this site was able to rank at all. I would sure hate to have to tell someone how to find the site... Jarrod Hunt

I guess that blows the whole theory of "too many hyphens in the url would be a cause for an over-optimization penalty" out the window.
I am no stranger to keywords and hyphens in urls being successful but most people have theorized that too many would be a bad thing. I would be curious as to how successful these actually are overall and if people were actually able to maintain long term rankings with them. My guess is that it would be delisted very quickly after being ranked. Great for a quick buck or two but not too great for a consistent income. This is the first time I have ever seen this long of a URL, with so many hyphens. Jarrod Hunt |

One of my urls that performs in a big way. The site has never been sandboxed and gets lots of visitors. Last edited by mick.sawyer : April 11th, 2005 at 07:40 PM. Reason: Url edited out becuse its a little bit `filthy` |

ha... yeah, extremely spammy.
But yyou guys have to remember that the URL itself has nothing to do with their ranking... If they have that spammy of a URL, they're more than likely also spamming to get lots of links as well. They have over 800 backlinks. Of those 800+ backlinks, 97% of them contain the anchor text "remote control", which is why they're ranked well for "remote control airplanes"... Brad

Fryman,
I'm not sure if anyone has any solid proof on this but I am curiuos if Google doesnt include the URL as well as surrounding text in its calculation for allinanchor:. |

i have just started a website with hyphens in it but not nearly as long. I am sandboxed still. IMO i dont think the url is helping.
