Google Search Forbidden
Any ideas on why I would get the forbidden page for Google (I'm not searching through someones site, just doing a regular Google search). I rarely use my home computer so to me its even stranger to have this come up.
Anyone else having any issues? Last edited by Jasontnyc : February 16th, 2005 at 05:45 AM. |

Out of those choices it would have to be this one. I use the national provider so if so it would affect a lot of people. I fired off an email as instructed, so we'll see. It doesnt affect me so much as I have a different ISP on my work computer but will be interesting to see what it was in the end. Cheers |

Jason
I have had the same from my IE browser, but not from my Firefox browser (on the same machine). Sent a message to Google, so will be interesting to find out what it is

It happens regardless of the search...I get it with "Test" or anything else. That particular setup only has IE on it so I will put Firefox on it when I get a chance and see what happens.

Did you have any "different type" of communication with G
eg. email problems to gGuy or perhaps take part in the petition http://forums.seochat.com/t22052/s....hlight=petition or anything else? Uninstall your Google and Alexa toolbars and see what happens Just a thought maybe you have been using your toolbar to much???? Last edited by LifeAfterGoogle : February 16th, 2005 at 06:11 AM. Lol ... I rarely use that IP and when I do its for my own searches. I do all my SEO work and Google bashing from my office.
I think its got to have something to do with the IP block..someone else getting banned I'm sure. When I get a response (not the canned one I already got), I will post it here. Internex - post your response if you get one before me |

I doubt Google would ban a national provider. A few months ago a worm came out that used Google to fish for emails and vulnerabilities. Google banned the worm and maybe associating IPs. Try downloading Bazooka (http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/index.html) and hijackthis (http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html) to find brpowser exploits and redirection. Sounds like something is being transmitted along with the request. Maybe a modified header request of somekind. Hope that helps. |

Thanks PK,
I went to do as suggested on that computer (it had been off since last post) and did a test search and it was back. I had seen the problem on two occasions 7 hours apart (the only two times I checked it as I don't use that computer much) with the computer off in between. I spoke to the only other E*rcom user I know and they said they had problems last night. I suspect just a range was banned for a short time (automatically?) and the issue was resolved. I didn't receive a response from Google of course but glad to see it was an issue that had nothing to do with me. Interesting none the less. Cheers |

Slightly OP...
In my expereince, I have only seen this happening when using a custom user agent string. Google doesn't like automated scripts or programs using it's service (that's what the API is for). So you need to make sure any scripts / software uses a proper browser User Agent string. |
