MSN and Content? Yeah Right
What is all this stuff I keep reading about how heavily the MSN search emphasizes content, content, content? It's mostly bull, bull, bull. My new site, which i've just discovered is not only loaded with errors, but actually has the NOFRAMES tag outside the body tag (LOL), ranks relatively high on the search. Is this a fluke? There are only a couple scenarios. Either A)The MSN spider can index pages with frames, or B)It indexed my site purely by Meta Tags. The latter is a pretty strange scenario since most of what i've read says all major search engines basically ignore the tags.

No, its not about meta tags (I have some sites that have no meta tags and rank well in it). No, its not just about content. No, its not just about links. Like all major search engines, its about a number of factors, with varying weight amongst those factors.

granted, it is always due to a number of factors. All i'm saying is that either the MSN spider can read frames pages, or it must have ranked my site based almost solely on meta-tags because if it cant read frames then it would have seen no content, and i have almost no links.

MAB -
My recent research into MSN suggests that much like Yahoo!, on-page content is 'slightly' more important then it is to Google. However, this may also be caused by the fact that Google's index is at least 4X the size of MSN's, so they have fewer links to rely on in general. I believe MSN does have a strong preference for links, and it's probable they're using or are about to use block-level analysis to help determine the value of links - after all, their engineers came up with it. Links, anchor text, authority, all your favorites are part of MSN... |

does your research indicate anything about how the MSN spider views frames? My page should be much lower according to what you've said about links since i have almost zero. That leaves tags.

As of now, anchor text is king to MSN. And I don't like it. The
number 1 result for my keyword got there with the same anchor repeated over and over on the same domain. |
