I think he just hates it because it is now so closely associated with ridiculous and time wasting posts on this forum. Personally I could care less about it. I don't see, though, what is so cool about Google inserting ads into your emails, etc. The best thing for this forum would be for it to come out of beta and then have its own category or topic so that I can ignore it and stop seeing it posted to Google News.

Its been asked many times how to get people to sign up for a new forum...It seems the best way is to make a post like "I have F*r*e*e G*M*a*i*l Acc*ount*s" (I put in the stars to keep it from attracting the masses)
