The main points of the article:

Items that will improve search rankings in the new formula include:
  • Number of semi-colons on the page.
  • Use of the term 'fluffy' in the domain.
  • Heavier weighting for the .name top-level domain.
  • Using seventeen empty font tags before the first hyperlink.
Li also mentioned some of the criteria that could get a site banned from Google's search results. Some of these items include:
  • Claiming to have nude pictures of Britney Spears just to get page views.
  • Having the sequence of letters "rtg" alone or within a word more than once on a page.
  • Directly linking to Google search results without prior written consent from Google.
  • Using the term 'blog' as a verb on any page within a site.
Webmasters, who try to optimize their Google search rank placement, questioned the search giant's new formula.

Things Google Plans to Do with Their IPO Money

11. From this day forward, always get extra cheese on the pizza.
10. Hire staff to create Google in more silly languages like Klingon and French.
9. Hire hitmen to take care of all the bloggers involved in Google bombing.
8. Spend every last dime on keeping "Friends" on the air for one more season.
7. Buy t-shirts for everybody saying, "My company had an IPO and all I got were these lousy stock options worth $30,000,000."
6. Quit while they're ahead.
5. Use the really nice china, they save for when company comes over, every day.
4. You can't put a price on the profound good to mankind that is achieved by pissing off Bill Gates.
3. Pay marketing company 1.2 billion for 10 new words that rhyme with Google.
2. Stop using Froogle to buy their toner cartridges.
1. Prove once and for all that money really can buy happiness.

I especially like #9

Heavier weighting for the .name top-level domain, hmm, its pathetic, its only a domain name, and the best sites are always .com, .net or .co.uk . .name domains designed for first.last.name - why should personal homepages get more weight then corporate sites which are actually more relevant? I mean these search engine spam sites and link farms are going to take this opportunity by splashing out on .name domains

Claiming to have nude pictures of Britney Spears just to get page views, I totally agree for this one, what is so good about britney anyway?? You might as well go on adult rated sites...

Directly linking to Google search results without prior written consent from Google, hmm, I have broken this a few times! I mean do i put a direct link to the search page, or link to www.google.com and tell by users to search for a certain term or phrase? how inconvenient. I mean every user I refer to google, google has a big chance of one of those users clicking on an advertisement.

Using the term 'blog' as a verb on any page within a site, does google actually own the word blog?
Perhaps google should be more bothered about searching for the following terms on pages and banning them?
buy gmail, gmail swap, gmail trade etc.
I suppose they dont do this as they would have to ban eBay, who is a fairly big percentage of AdWord advertising revenue.

hmm, Google will soon be doing spy planes - "Powered by Google" - "Search for anyone in the whole entire world" - and probably detectives, "Googles private detectives will find evidence...but will ignore guns, knifes and WMDs as they are banned"

There wont be any business directories or phone books in the whole world, everyone will be included in Google, so when you type your name, your address and tel. no. come up, or if you type your telephone number your address come up, then there would be links instead of cached etc. there would be view criminal record (if applicable), View birth certificate, View medical and dental records, Search my inbox (if has gmail), view my (gmail) address book, view companies that i own or am a director of, view domains that i own, view birds eye view of my house, (when a deal with the british government on tracking via satellite to charge by the mile and scrap tax and fuel duty) where am i now? (exact co-ords, town/city, road you are on) ...

Dan

p.s. In someways long term, I welcome googles new search plans and PR algo, if us webmasters cant get decent rank and SERPS we wont bother with Google and therefore no one will advertise with AdWords, which means Google search may hit the wall in a few years time, we would have to bother with others such as MSN Search (by then probably be in Windows)

Rather or not google will be using this forumlar still really unknown as their search results hasn't change for few weeks already. However, I seriously doublt it will be the case where .name will be more popular than .com, which I doubt where this article came from. As I don't see this articles on MSN or CNET.

It is true that people are abusing .com by throwing junks to fool around search engine. And with people whom clamis charge 400 dollars (from elance.com), you can get someone to do your SEO. This fighting never ends. However, I do agree one thing from this post is that the content of the page. They must have high density when compare the words which linking from. Bottom line is, if you design a site just for spiders... I think it is a bad idea. It will have to be for both.
