Any ever here of traffic-power?

I received a phone call from these guys asking if I would like to be on the first google page for a keyword.

Sure would...so they start showing me examples of their customers. I hope it's ok to post this. w*ww.passback.net (remove *). If you put into google "quarterback training" they are number 1. But look at the link.... isn't that a door way page?

If it is, isn't that against the google TOS?

I know it's not a highly competitive keyword. So I checked a few other examples that they gave. Many were in the first 5 entries of page 1 on google and all of them used this same method.
theirname.com/keyword_phrase_xyz.html

Of course they want me to pay them to make my site number 1 for this keyword.

There was an article from webpronews that just came out.
It's considered another way of google bombing. If you have high PR site, just add the keyword to the url.

Yeah I received about three calls from three different people in three days. We were actually considering using them and stopped by their office in Las Vegas. It looked like a sweat shop to me. The salesperson pretty much spoiled the deal by being extremely pushy with us. The terms they showed as examples looked like I could optimize in my sleep. I don't know what kind of methods they implement but they claimed to be working with one of our competitors which happens to have worse rankings then we do on our key terms. I'd like to know if anyone else has run into these guys or what methods they use for optimization.

could your site get kicked off of google for this ?

Traffic Power does three things mainly.

First they create doorway pages for your site. It doesn't matter what they call them, attraction pages or whatever, they are doorway pages pure and simple.Second, they give those pages link pop, and thus as far as google, PR. Third, they adjust the link pop over time to get you to toward the first page. Occassionally they may also revise the pages.

On dealing with TP, some of the reps are as pushy as used car salesman and have as much scrupples as lawyers. Some reps though are very good and when they know that you understand the whole plan, won't try and sell you a bag full of B.S. TP prices jump all over the place. They will start high and if you negotiate, you can get them down to a reasonable sum. Don't pay an more than 1.5k to 2.5k though. Also, only pay on an installment plan spread over several months and pay by credit card so that if they don't deliver, you can charge it back.

If you should decide to implement, don't give them unfettered access to your site, have them send you the pages and any code that needs to be implemented into existing pages and ftp upload it yourself. This way you will always know what is on your webspace and can remove it quickly if need be.

In the end, you might get caught for doorway pages and get banned or penalized, understand that this is a risk. I personally have seen several sights using TP pages that have done so for 3-4 years without a problem. I sincerely doubt that those people would even post here, so most comments you see will tend to be on the negative side. It is also possible that some people that have gotten burned would not post out of embarassment. On the flip side, we all also have seen many sites using cloaking, hidden text, etc that haven't gotten banned either, so in the end, it really a toss of a coin.

It's sort of like speeding when you drive, some might be very lucky and never get a ticket, others might just get away with it for a long-time before they get a ticket and yet others might get a ticket the first time they go over the speed-limit.

traffic-power does some other odd things.

If you follow their lead, the first time, they have you click on one thing, then go to another, then all the serps on the second term change, w/ their things highter (spyware?)

My boss was on the phone w/ them, and I grabbed the searches, and urls, but never clicked, and every time, my serps were different than his.

avoid traffic-power like the plague. One day google is just going to construct a search for stuff like this, and rm them from the index. (At least i hope they will)

I thought the forums would be a perfect place to discuss this type of thing. I'm glad it hasn't been deleted here.

It's forums like this that teach people the right thing to do and also keeps people from getting penalized or banned.

I would just like to state for the record that I am an employee of Traffic Power and what we say we are going to do for our clients is exactly what happens.
No we do not make DOORWAY pages and no we do not rip off our clients. We are one of the largest optimizations firms in the world and I take pride in what we do. All of our clients to date come back to do business every year. I am very dissappointed in the statements that are made about us.
But then again there are going to be complaints about any company no matter if they are doing good business or not. I do feel that some say crap about our firm due to the fact that they cannot achieve what we can.
I do welcome any replies about this matter. And if you have concrete evidence about our company I would love to see it.
And DOORWAY pages are frowned upon definately. We 'do not' make or create doorway pages and never will.
