Will blocking ImageBot leads to wrose rank?
Hi guys,
What will it happen if I allow google "normal/text" bot and disallow google image bot? I'd like to gather more bandwidth for normal users but fear to get lower page rank(or same PR but minus some scores you cant see it...) or serp. Thanks. |

Hi type,
No, I do not think so. One of my clients web site does get a lot of quality traffic from Google Image Search, so I would never block it.

It wont affect your rank.

Of course it wont effect but it may effect your ranking your site in long-term. For example, webmaster can not see your images in Google-img-search and then not link to your website from their pages.

I dont see any reasons they could affect your results. There are extremely valid reasons why one would block imagebot.

I've had the googlebot image block via my robots.txt file since about the day they opened the image directory.
Haven't seen one iota of problem with it. |

HEY!
Don't disallow the image bot. You might be getting tons of traffic from the google image search. I get LOTS of high quality traffic from it and hold many #1's in the image search. I optimize to rank in the image search.

You can save a lot of bandwidth by blocking images, if you care about that. How do you optimize for images? If you could PM me an example of what you have done, that'd be cool to see. |

i am getting lots of traffic from Google image search. i am optimizing the images with using "alt attribute" , putting each image in a html file (specifically optimized html page, for examle: key-word.html ; title: Key Word -1 ; H1; <p> ; <b> ... etc. ->This is perfect for also entire website's success at Google).
And, i dont care the google-bot image robot traffic, please read my this stats (last 45 days): (traffic by spiders) Googlebot - 78.38 Mb Googlebot image -7.66 Mb |

lol.... that bandwidth is a Hell of a lot cheaper than adwords. And, it is free traffic that is not looking at the text SERPs Last edited by EGOL : May 10th, 2004 at 07:56 PM. |

I am doing the same thing as Kusadasi-Guy. So far this month the log of my main site shows over 5000 clickthroughs from images.google.com, images.google.de/ca/se/fr/etc and many others. You can promote some products better in google images than you can in the SERPs. Pick a good image that represents your product well. Last edited by EGOL : May 10th, 2004 at 07:58 PM. |

Hi,
I write for the blind when I do the alt-tags, so I can not "optimize" them. Is there another way? Thank you. |

Use thumbnail system, put each image in to separate html pages.
