What happened to the signatures?

As the title states, what happened to the user signatures. Did i just turn them off by accident or something? I noticed that they werent showing up anymore... Some people had really good ones too. Ehhh oh well i guess...

Apparently one user was abusing the signature a little with a big banner. It was turned off and the user immediately put it back in. To avoid such abuse, Darrin has turned them off. We all still get the chance to put 1 website in our profile, and this is linked on each posted message.

Gringo.

Hi Guys

I'm sorry about disabling the signtaures - I'm thinking about putting them back on but with a limit of about 10 - 15 characters, which is just enough or what the signature should be used for (a name / signature).

I'd like to hear some feedback on this issue from users!

I like having an open forum where users don't need to worry too much about what they say 'n stuff but some people will abuse the freedom

you can disable image tags in the sigs, it's an option that way no images can be put into the sigs, at all, banners or otherwise

I like Jason's idea. Having images in signatures is really annoying, but a link to a site of yours isnt too bad. Its those HUGE images that people seem to link to that really screw up the page load time for peeps like myself (56k all day!).

Most forums/newsgroups I belong to allow a four line signature.
That always seemed acceptable to me.
If someone continually abuses your policy you could just ban them.

Hello from Doug

I like the (Text) Signature since I can identifiy quickly who had written the message.

I don't like large graphics since they are distracting (The little faces are nice and fun. The expressions really help put humor and personality into statements).

----

I am most interested in reading the different responses to questions or statements.

Many of you put in links for more information which I go to a lot! My only problem with all of your valuable links, is that I find it hard to keep up with them. May be a (Chat room) link Site-map (With a search engine) can be made. This could be a new (Group). I would use this all the time!

Doug

Yup -- there is a 20 character limit for newer users. Hopefully this will stop some of the spam n' stuff. I'm not going to disallow HTML unless things get really out of control 8)

I can certainly see the potential for abuse with signatures. However, I'm new to SEOchat, and I'd sure like to have my website url on my sig, like this:

KaKoa
http://www.allfreecrafts.com

Unfortunately, it's one character too long, even if I cut out the http:// part.

I don't mind being a newbie, and I follow the rules (usually ) but this seems a bit unfair.

Edit: Just realized the url itself is too long, and that doesn't even count my name. You might want to re-think the number of characters allowed, maybe?
