With the caveat that I am often against change, I must say that I am fairly disappointed with this turn of events. The old SeoChat was for all intents and purposes not-for-profit....and when you add the advertising everywhere, it loses (at least to me) much of the value that it provided....not to mention I prefer phpBB forums. Hell - my sig is not even appropriate anymore.

Sorry guys..
This is the first community that I've created on this level, and i'm extremely proud of everyone here. I took SeoChat as far as I could with my resources. I think Jon can take it even further, which is the prime reason I sold the site. One of the bad parts is that there will be advertising, but I think in the long run there will be more achieved. |

Darrin,
Aren't you concerned about the lawsuites from the lost User PR? LOL |

piel,
I think I'm with you on this one. The advertising and the change from not-for-profit really takes away from the grass-roots feel of the site. :-? |

There's no membership fee to chat here - so your ROI is astronomical. I don't care if there are a few ads, I've learned a lot at SEOchat in just a few weeks.
I do hope that Jonathan posts a bit of bio so we can appreciate his interests. |

Thank you EGOL. A quick BIO on me:
My accomplishments are varied, I started the first web host directory on the internet and sold it to Cnet not too long ago: http://www.cnet.com/aboutcnet/0-13613-7-918294.html I am currently putting together a network of web developer resources and I believe Seochat and google-dance will be a excellent addition to the network. I plan on building out google-dance to be a content driven resource portal of all things SE related (not just google) Very nice to of meet all of you, I am looking forward to seeing you on SEO Chat! As always, if you ever have any suggestions please send them my way! |

I want to make it clear that the moderators back Jcaputo all the way. The forum 'look and feel' and the fact there is now advertising may take a little time to get used to, but I'm sure everyone will get used to them quickly.
There will I'm sure be further usabilty modifications and enhancements for the forum to come. SEOChat has become a major search engine marketing resource, and the fact that the few advertisements are helping to pay for bandwidth shouldnt imo be resented or seen as a sell out. I believe I speak for all the moderators, and back the changes fully and will continue to moderate and help out where I can. |

Thank you Webby! It is VERY apparent that the Moderators on SEO Chat are bar none, the best around - and the community here is truely one of the best Ive seen.

Let me be a little more clear about what I said, in so far as I don't want to give you the impression that I think you can't make this work or anything. As I said in my 1st post, I am never a big fan of change, and second, we all got used to that loving community feel of the site as it was run by Darrin. With all this said, I do sincerely wish you the best of luck taking the site and the concept to the next level. I will certainly be rooting for you, but you are in fact going to have to win over a lot of people who follow the "if it isn't broken, why fix it?" mentallity. Hell, if there is any way I can help out, let me know,. cheers. |

Not to be a pain here, but when you can get a web site for $125 a year with unlimited OC/3 bandwidth, this should not be considered an issue. |

I should point out there are other costs associated with a site like this - not just bandwidth, hosting/hardware, coding/employees, marketing/promotion, software licenses, just to name a few! ;)

Webby's right - we back Jon up all the way and all I would ask (and have done already a couple of times in other posts) is that we give him a fair chance to make a go of it.
