    Exclamation Specific Bug Report Thread?

I am not clear on where I should post a bug report or check to see if you are aware of it. I assume you are.
Is there or should there be a specific bug report thread?

Bug: When not logged in, the first post in a thread is invisible.
    Workaround: Log in
Confirmed in: Firefox 17.0.1 (I am way to lazy to boot up IE for this purpose)
    Severity: Frikin annoying.

This is probably the best place

Quick question: why do you log out at all?

But yeah, I can see that our (MANY) guests might get confused and even annoyed. Thanks for mentioning it -- I've just made this thread 'sticky' so other people can share their bugs as well..............

Actually bug #2 is that I am getting logged out a lot even with remember me checked and not closing the browser.

Otherwise I get logged out when I close my browser because I clear all cookies on exit so I don't have saved stuff when I visit competitors websites, check google, etc. etc.

Also Am I supposed to have the power to close the thread? I have a check box.

If you 'toss your cookies' after every session, you're bound to be logged out, yes. Ok that makes sense.

I dunno if you can actually close threads (yet). The checkbox is just there, but postcount-based permissions may or may not be clashing with it. Only the admins here can elaborate on that.........

Create a test thread in here and try to close it? (not sure if it would have the same effect on this thread as its a sticky?). I would imagine its so people can close their own threads once their question has been answered, which is good because if people can handle doing that it would save us mods having to keep as many threads clear of spammers who open old threads which have been solved etc (no names but fathom is the latest to open a thread from 2009 rofl)

And yes, clearing your cookies would log you out, which is a standard thing for all sites I believe? You should be able to add an exception to this site in FF by going to "Tools>Options>Privacy Tab>Exceptions" (make sure to use allow not allow for session), that's presuming you allow cookies and have them set to delete at the end of each session from the Privacy Tab?

Are you clicking on "Remember Me" when logging in? If not, the default timeout is 900 seconds (15 minutes) of inactivity.

I had Charles bump it up to an hour - I don't think there would be anything wrong with leaving it at a day, but let me double check before we bump it up.

This is where we get into the fun with vBulletin... the same timeout also is what is used to show the number of users online. When you increase it, it shows an artificial number of active users and we want to be transparent. When you click "Remember Me" it sets a cookie and uses that cookie to verify your login every time you click on a link, but will still maintain the appropriate number of users online.

    Closing your own thread.
CONFIRMED. This function works (at my post level)
Honestly I don't think it is a bug/unwanted feature. It actually seems like a decent idea.
Suggestion - Add making a post, then closing it without comment a ban offense to avoid spam.

NEW Bug Report - Locked Thread Behavior

The 'response' box should be replaced with a 'thread locked' message, or at least not appear if a thread is locked.
I spent 15min writing and tweaking a response on a thread that turned out to be locked.

It was fine to lock, but I had no idea when I put in that time and effort.

    Specific suggestion is:
When thread is locked, do not display response box. If possible display 'this thread locked' in it's place.

Yeah I could see how that would be annoying! Sounds like a templating thing, but let me see if its in the options.

Um what? That was how long I was typing for. The thread was locked before I started.

I am so not writing for 12 hours in response to a post here.
