Reputation points threshold

Is there any way that we could stop people who just post short one-line replies to threads to try to get their post count up. I've seen lots of instances of this and it is annoying as it hides the mainly excellent advice from people here who genuinely want to help others out.

Perhaps something could be done with reputation points instead so that only people with a high reputation would be able to post links / have a signature etc.

Just a thought?

lol...such non-sense posters don't stay long. Plus, the members can easily sort out genuine quality posts from many such one-liner crap posts.

This is an open forum and the members have the liberty to express their views in as many characters/words/lines as they want..don't think that much could be done to prevent it.

In fact, such a system already exists. Posters who have crossed a certain number of posts can only have signature in their posts. As for the links...they are removed by the mods. If you see any live link posted by a new member pointing to his own site/blog, just click on the "Spam" button on the bottom left hand side of the post.

Nice thought - it is only because of new thoughts and ideas like these that help the admins introduce new features to make SEOchat a much more useful and informative resource for all SEOs.

Thank you !

I think saying lots is a little exaggerated... yes they come but i believe for the most part SeoChat doesn't have that many... we usually ban them if they get too bad

The signatures and link privileges are limited to users who contribute... if you see members disobeying you need press the "spam" button to let us know and we will deal with them.

The idea is to keep "new" people from coming dropping a link to their site and never returning... we don't want to spend our valuable time reviewing a site for a user who will never come and and see it or care.

Hence the restrictions. If not enforced we would have a ton of spam and users like you who want advice would not get it because the site reviews section would be a mass of spam and nobody would enter it.

I didn't think links could be posted? Are you saying people would write out the link just to drive traffic? Isnt this already a problem in other areas of the site?

I'm just complaining to get my post count up, just joking..

For newbies your right, if they try and do live links it will be checked by the spam system but they can still post and still spam if they have a mind to -

This is not a issue I can resolve however as I am not the one who decides what we change here at SeoChat. When Jon sees this he will decide... I suppose a poll could be started to see what the community thinks.
