    New big blackscreen advert?

as of this weekend, I was - am not today mind you - getting a large advert and blackscreen semi-transparent "lightbox" type of popup soon as I hit the site...

is that the "new" way the owners here are going to be showing adverts?

sure hope not...as I will NEVER EVER buy anything from such an advertiser....and knowing me would probably blog about such a useless, user-impacting methodology too!

    MODs...is this the 'new' way?

    ???

There are a couple of other threads on the same subject.

Personally I haven't seen that ad again for a day or two -- so I figured they nuked it. Ermmm... maybe not eh?

It was brought up over the weekend, and we're told that the ad was supposed to show up full-sized one time only, then would be reduced to the normal ad size.

James said that tech was working to resolve it, so I suppose they have now.

The worst ones are these stupid surveys that force you to give a phone number or signing up before being able to view the website. I would love to see their analytics... the bounce rates must be close to 100%.

Once agin I agree with you my firend. I get it every day on my work computer when I visit the site. I get it on my home computer when I clear cookies or enter seochat not logged in.

It sucks big time and makes the site look junky. If I was a first time visitor I also think I would be a last time visitor as I really hate popup adds...

I haven't cleared cookies or anything, but I'm getting it now at least daily.

I've made the request in the mod forum and the admins know about the issue but it's not really a priority. either big money or not enough noise from forum users about the advert. So if you really do'nt like it then voice your thoughts.

    Zats good.
Frankly, I wonder who Frank is and why he has his own adverb.

To be honest... I get the impression that the current admin does not care to much about what the users here think.

They would probably prefer just to close down this suggestion and feedback forum...

Hell, anytime there is enough "noise" for someone to take notice, we get a response saying something will be done about it, but then hardly anything ever happens.

That's what ticks me off the most.

I like this place because of the people here, not because of who owns the place, which is lucky for them I suppose.

But, for everyone who hates all these stinkin ads around here and no longer wishes to see them, I'd suggest installing this addon for Firefox:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/

It lets you right-click on any ad that's script-based and block that script. No more annoying popups, no more slow-loading banners, no more talking ads. Makes things much easier around here.

Since no one will do anything about the annoying ads, we'll just get rid of them ourselves

The ad is still there, popping up all over the place.

Using that blocker, I can nuke the ad itself but not the "lightbox" -- I still have to get rid of that, every time it shows up.

I feel like giving SEOChat a miss for a couple of months, and see if someone can be arsed to fix it in that time. Sigh.
