I have been using analytics for a while now. I change my homepage and then watch how it changes the traffic flow through my site. Change a button and see how it influences clickthrough rates. Since starting to use analytics I know what changes do to my site. My pageviews have doubled and time on site has tripled.

IMO Google will start ranking sites on the basis of SVA's - site visitor actions - in the very near future if they are not doing it already. They should have their heads examined if they are not doing it already. I firmly believe that this type of metric will become more important than traditional SEO impact.

Analytics software is available for free (a great freebie at weblogexpert) or for under $100 for a really nice package.

I combine analytics with SEO because it tells me where current traffic is coming from, what words on my page produce, who is sending me traffic and who is stealing my bandwidth. If I am getting a few visitors from a certain search term I go sniff the SERPs and find that I rank at #12 for that term. A couple page tweaks and I am up to #5, converting a trickle of traffic into a strong flow.

Anybody who is not using analytics is either lazy, dumb, or they just heard about it and are learning as fast as they can.

Egol... I started doing the same ages ago before G bought them. Have always liked the Urchin package; my host, Verio, provides it and has forever. I bet a good 20-25% of my best money keywords were found via Analytics.

It remains to be seen how many threads/posts a Web Analytics sub-forum would get. My head says there should be many... my gut says there will be few. Which, head or gut, will win?

Good idea IGOL. It will not only help everyone (including me) but it might just keep everyone happy and busy enough not to post things like: When is the next Google update? and Why doesn't Google show my back links?...
