Is there any SEO value in Social Media links?

We use social marketing for bringing in customers, does it have any or much SEO benefit at all ?I understand Facebook & Twitter links are all no follow, but do accumulative links across networks like Squidoo/ Stumble Upon/ Delicious / Google Plus etc play any part in SEO?

If you are gain traffic from social networking site it is valuable rather than increasing social media dfollow links.

It's my understanding, through my research so far, that social media doesn't necessarily affect a website's position in Google's page results, but simply gives an indicator that the site is doing well. Yeah if you have some business site than you have to get visitors from various sources not just Google,more you site received visitors from various source more worth on search engine.

There are measures being taken - by Bing in particular - to drive social media as a search tool for more personalised searches. If this was the case, wouldn't that make SEO of sites much harder in terms of targeting keywords?

When it comes to ranking factors links are still much more important than social shares. A link from a quality, trusted site has considerably greater weight than a like, tweet or +1. More the votes for particular link on google+, more it will affect on Seo.

Yes, I agree with you, why is the importance of social media underestimated, although if you look how big companies work on Twitter or Facebook, you'll see that in 2013 social media will get even more value and more efficiently in promoting the business and financial.
