Theres no point on backlinking from social media for seo as the vast majority are no follow.

so if your of the impression that it will help your rankings doing this your mistaken.

By almeans place links to pages on your site showing off your services , offers or whatever as social media can be very good for driving traffic to your website.

but it has no real benefit on the search engines.

Id read and learn on here to find out what your doing and then do it on a website.

    Hi,
In SEO, we optimise the website and make it search engine freindly but in Social media optimization we are marketing our website or product on social media networks. The benifits of SMO are :-

It drives qualified traffic on your web site
    Increase your link popularity
Helps to achieve high search engine result page ranking.
    Tool for viral marketing

SEO and Social meda marketing are on going process and change its strategy when it require for maintain the page ranking of the website.

    Thx

Since the links are nofollow links, I think that social media is best used for drawing traffic to your sites.

Not more important but certainly worth the time to set up social media accounts. Good for backlinks

But are the backlinks of any value if they have the nofollow tag? I'm really confused. It seems like some feel there is a benefit to seo, others don't?

There is most certainly benefit. Even if the backlinks themselves don't amount to much, I have seen some Facebook pages rank high in SERPs for popular search terms. Once you get traffic flowing to a Twitter or Facebook page, make sure you have quality thinks through to other sites of interest (blog posts for example).

    The indirect benefit

Social media is great for getting traffic to a link, especially a new blog post or something useful or informative. If you write something good, other people on Twitter may retweet your link, and someone may even link to it or your blog from his own site. No guarantees, though. It's not the most direct way to get backlinks, and to really establish a successful social media campaign you'll need to spend a fair amount of time building relationships with your readers/followers.

There's lots of social media to use, but instead of just put a link back onto a SNS, can we do something more to do for SEO? Who has better solutions.

Do not look at social media in a strictly 1:1 link ratio. It isn't going to work that way. What you can do is develop content to entice the viral actions Facebook and Twitter can present you with. It really involves placement and creativity though. Usually the more exciting, fun, or controversial, the more traffic and natural links you will see. It's a place to promote your link-worthy content.

You can get links from sites like stumble, propeller, and it can help with initial indexing but it won't do a lot of straight up link equity.

One of the strong points these days from social media is the real estate they capture in the search results. Great point here! As callenb mentioned, you cannot look at it as a 1:1 link ratio. There are lots of other benefits that can be gained as well.

Think of social media as a branch of SEO. It should not replace SEO but be a part of your SEO efforts.

Lots of great advice posted here. Re-read it a few more times and you'll start seeing the light.

What sort of sm content ends up in search results? For instance, does a facebook wall post end up on there? How do you optimize posts to get them ranked higher?
