Is a Facebook page a sufficient alternative to a website?

    Hi all,
Months ago when I was about to launch my home-based business, a Facebook fan page was the closest ans simplest solution to advertising myself and having web-presence.
Now, after reading a bit about SEO I'm starting to wonder if it's good enough to replace a website..
Considering the fact that getting a website is going to be time-consuming and probably expensive, do you think I can keep working through my fan page?

    Thanks a lot,
    Neil

Why not use the facebook page, and meanwhile, build and learn how to rank your own website yourself... well, if you have time and some interest.

You can build a website very easily and link to it from your facebook page, and even post blog updates etc to your FB fan page.

Depending on what you want, a wordpress site may very well be what you need.

With what they have available today (such as Wordpress and other great services), you can have a very nice website up and running in a lazy weekend.

In the beginning of December I bought a domain and a year's worth of hosting from GoDaddy for $43. I see no reason not to make a website.

What I did was I went to Freelancer and put up a job of building a 5 page website, I had 8 bids in 3 minutes ranging from $60-150. I took the $150 job because he looked the most professional. He setup the hard parts of the website such as the CSS's, inquiry forms, and the basic templates for the pages. He also made all the basic images and stuff and threw in a company logo. The design/color scheme was very nice, much nicer than I would have come up with. I then took over since I have some experience with HTML in the past. I reverse engineered a lot of what he did to learn about it then made all kinds of changes myself, reading up on SEO the whole time. For me it was a fun project doing the coding by hand, but if you aren't interested there are things like Wordpress that will do it all for you.

Facebook page is not an alternative but rather good addition to your site. Just add social buttons to your site. As it was mentioned above, in this case a lot of circumstances depend on you niche.

I don't think a fb page is an alternative to a website. Fb page is more on advertising and just helping out promote your real web site and product.
