Hi guys, I am starting to see good progress in SE advancement for the project at this URL, however running the site through the W3 validator indicates to me that I am clueless about a lot of things that may be affecting my ranking and/or usability.

I don't know where to begin, but basically the validator returns about 200-odd problems.. (i can hear the giggles now..)

Right off the bat I solved a major chunk of these, that some of my DB-generated product thumbnails have ALT tags with no " " around them, I'm going to fix that one. Lots of the other problems escape me though..

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

I had real difficulty reading your site. The text is just too small. If you are going to use small text then use a big line spacing as well. Better to go one point bigger. You clearly have no problem so I'll continue at this size.
There are some weird mistakes on your page which I would not expect to see. Anything inside an image alt tag should be in quotations ie alt="Girls Ladies Women Guys Men Males Dancing Club Crowd Indoors Party". I'm looking at the source code here, but can't believe this is an accurate description of mini-mini-FSIMGPPL00045.jpg. Anyway, that's most of the errors.
<head> should be on the second line of your code, not hidden in the middle of your meta tags.
There are a lot of closing tag problems. Every tag that opens like this: '<tag>' should close like this: '</tag>' and there should be no '<' or '>' between them.
The validator has changed since I last looked. Go to http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=h...tically%29&ss=1 This will show your source code with numbers which makes the faults much easier to trace.

.

For the text size, I guess as i've got genetically great eyes I haven't ever been annoyed by size 1. You're right it is of course easier to read at this point but I really like to keep things on one page without a scroll wherever possible, and I figure that keeping the text limited to a couple paragraphs as well as line breaking every 10 words or so shouldn't be so annoying for most people.

Yes i'm trying to solve this ALT problem I just noticed that these product thumbnails are not showing up with ALT in " ". It's basically a problem with the ASP syntax, I just have to add a couple more " " I believe.

As for the FSIMGPPL00045, thanks, it seems that the random thumb function on the front page was calling up images that had been "put offline" out of the inventory. That 0045 one was not actually supposed to show up, since fixed.

I am up on the <programmingisfun> </programmingisfun> relationship, any of these wandering brackets are due to some ASP errors I will have to hunt down..

Thanks for your tips! Anyone else want to input 2 cents?
