Question Why does Google do that??

I just don't understand !!!!! I have a photography site with a page on Greece and another with Cuba. I checked out Google for photography Greece and I came up on page 3 which is fine but when I checked out the sites on page 1 a couple did not even have a description tag and very little text on their home page and in fact there was a forum listed on page 2 that someone wrote in asking a question on Greece. So how did they out beat me???? Then on Cuba I used to be on page 1 now I am on page 2 but they have not only listed my home page but my title page on Cuba which is good. I think I have done everything right with text and descriptions.:-?

There is something changed on google....
Look very carefully at the body text since i noticed that one time
to many does have a bad influence...

Hi, well...you could still improve your website...

some hints.
../abstractart/abstract1.htm
would be better
../abstractart/abstract-art.htm << keywords in filename

/cuba/cuba1.htm
why not
/cuba/photo-art-gallery-cuba.htm

if you cant have all your keywords in your domain name...its always better to have them as your file name...
You will notice the difference...

Make a seperate links page, for your links...

Dont make the ALT tag from your main page images to long...
better to use only the main keywords....

very important....create inside links to your main page..with your keywords (Abstract Fine Art Photography Gallery) as link text !!!

regards, hans

Thanks hans......I think I understand most of what you are saying except when you say
Make a seperate links page, for your links...

I thought that I do have a separate page for my links

and
very important....create inside links to your main page..with your keywords (Abstract Fine Art Photography Gallery) as link text !!!

:-? do you mean in my html page put a link to my main page and keep that hidden because I do have a button on every page that points to home.....do you mean put the text in there??

let me explain...

Every link on the internet to your website with YOUR keywords as anchor text will improve your ranks on those keywords !!!

So in order to improve this you can create a link to your MAIN page and put it on each page (mostly at the bottom) with those
anchor text keywords inside !!

Its simple as that...

regards, hans

Sammy,

>>>> there was a forum listed on page 2 that someone wrote in asking a question on Greece.

Make those people your friends.
Register in that forum. Make posts about Greece, and about photos. Answer questions about Greece.

The forum that doesn't have anything in its title but is still on page one is www.dpgr.gr? It needs to be on page 1. dgpr is for Digital Photography GReece.

Register there. Make posts. Put your URL in your profile. Be visible.

Look at everyone who is in front of you and see if you can hook up with them in some way.
I'll give you an example. There's a small site for my city where people can upload images of my city

S T O P.
I'm so traumatized from webmasterworld where you can't name names and quote Urls

Let me start over.
There's a site for Berlin where people can upload images of Berlin. I've been posting images there off and on. Today I get a mass mailing from the moderator "Hey folks what's up? People
haven't been posting lately. If you got any pics why not put them up". So I write him a mail telling him that I got good traffic and can we co-operate mor closely.

He was extremely forthcoming and made arrangements on his site within two hours giving me privileges and letting me have access to stats.

Matthias

Matthias,
Thanks for the input. Actually I totally overlooked the site you put the url of but what you say does make sense. It just becomes a full time job trying to keep up especially in the photo business as I am sure you are aware of. I am going to have to go back and check out that forum. I do try to keep on top of it and check to see what other s are doing to get on the first page. I do have some keywords for my abstract art which have got me on page 1 so all is not lost.
