Too many graphics?.
I am needing opinions on download times, and graphics usage and welcome any pointers....
I recently redesigned our company's entire site. There are definately more graphics now. I've compressed them as far as possible, since I do not want to lose too much of the appearance. We focus on the upper class economy and businesses. Are there too many graphics, does the download time make you want to leave? ARe there any pro's that could help me make the site better with knowledge and tips? I have adsl so It is hard to judge. Please honest opinions. Thanks in advance |

The download isnt too bad! Im on 56k right now, and it took under 10 secs. The magic number is 14 seconds... After that, most people will leave. I dont remember where i read that though. But your site looks nice, and loads quicky. There was only one image that took a little while, and it wasnt for navigation purposes anyway.

Oh, wow! That makes me happy. You know how you try to make the images as fast downloading as possible, and they start to look horrible. That is what I don't want. Well, I am glad it loads in 10 seconds!! Thanks for taking the time to review!

Rule of themb is 60K per page including all graphics... that is upper end... 10 seconds and ya lose em if they have alot of other selections to go to. I don't have a dialup to check them. If I get to 75k, I look at putting a graphic elsewhere. I also try to get the text up high in the source so that it loads first and the graphics come in later, gets people to start reading then brings the graphics in. Use CSS-P for that, and I can even make it work in NN4! HTH zen kidoimages.com

CSS-P? What would I have to put into my style sheets? And it will really work with NS4 too?

I checked out the shadow trailers site.. Call me what you want, but i definetly prefer links underlined... It makes them much easier to find on the page. I would also optimize the graphics. On 56k, it took way too long to load. But it looks like a nice clean site. I like the graphic on the top too

Yes, I agree. The graphics take long to load on my adsl connection. Thank you for taking the time to review.
