Review Please: www.rare-lyrics.com
Hey,
I've done a fair bit fo linking and optimized the site to the best of my ability, but im still being ranked fairly poorly for most lyrics searches. I'd appreciate any tips or recommendations both of as an seo and a visitor very much. Regards, Daniel |

I quite like this site, but it has problems with Google. Specifically Google appears to be crawling down to the artists by letter category lists but then doesn't go any further.
It's a big, big site and I'm guessing you didn't type it all in yourself. There are a few similar sites on the internet. Is there any chance that Google might be thinking this is duplicate content and ignoring it? I would try an experiment. I would randomly add some lyrics to a column down the side of each category page - different on each page but relevant to that category. It would add interest for visitors and give Google something to chew on apart from a long list of links. It would also differentiate your pages from other sites. 8) |

Breesy,
I am showing a pr6 with 275 bl's. Pretty good. What about your competitors? Are there mostly big guns ahead of you in the serps? What about your keywords and their density? It seems every other word on your home page is "lyrics"; or are you depending upon keyphrases with the kw "lyrics" contained within (31 lyrics = 24% density just in the home page text)?

Hey,
Well I dont really think its picking it up as duplicate content, there is more than likely a few very similar sites out there as I picked up the database as part of a deal from another owner. I've had every paged indexed before just at the moment its a bit low... Just having problems with getting the pages up high in the serps. Eg: http://lyrics.rare-lyrics.com/B/Black-Eyed-Peas.html wont even rank in the top 1000 for black eyed peas lyrics. The high lyrics density on the home page is purely for backlink text of those pages. It doesn't appear to be that bad, google has every page linked from the home page indexed. There is quite a bit of competition yes, theres a few million searches a month for the term lyrics alone, many many more for the thousands of common variations of it (coldplay lyrics etc). In comparison, the number one result for black eyed peas lyrics has a density for black eyed peas lyrics of 4.1% and a prominence of 96.6! Mine is 2.2% density and 66 prominence but I cant think of how to increase it without being spammy. Judging from their page excluding meta tags I really cant see how they do so well. Theres stats at: http://extremetracking.com/open;ref1?login=rarelyri Measurements at: http://www.ranks.nl/cgi-bin/ranksnl...pider.cgi?lang= Last edited by Breesy : April 27th, 2004 at 09:47 AM. |
