Please take a look at my site

Hi,

Fisrt post and I'm looking for some opinions on my site optimization:
www.autopaintdirect.com
That page has been online for anout 9 months but it was mainly just the graphics until yesterday.
I added all the real text and the metas. I want to keep the appearnace as buyers comment that they buy from me because the site is prettier than some others. But I need to get some sort of placement at Google for "auto paint" in order to get the customers in the first place. Right now I'm using adwords.
I've been getting some link exchanges but they don't seem to be showing up as backlinks yet.
Do you think the page has any chance of getting some reasonably good placement?
Did I overdo the keywords in the alt areas?
Any suggestions?
As I understand it, Google has not updated thier page rank in some time now. Have the actual listings delivered during a search changed at all during this time (site placement)?
I'm not really new to this but it's been a few years and things have changed mightily!
Thanks!

Larry

Larry,

Be sure to read the articles and tips here on the forum.

I'll give you my opinion on your site though!

Get the text closer to the top of the page. The revevancy of the text counts to how soon it shows up to the beginning of the page. "Custom paint for classic cars" - "Custom paint" will seem to be more important than "classic cars", also the number of times it appears is important too, just don't go crazy with "Custom paint, custom paints, custom paint for cars". Deliberate repitition is bad.

You seem to be looking to sell auto paint, but the home page seems dedicated to giving tips on how to apply the paint. Not a bad idea to be an expert (great way to get back links!), but not a great way to intice customers or bring the message that they can buy paint from you. Think of your home page as the "elevator" conversation - someone runs into you in an elevator and askes what your company does and you have 4 floors to eplain it to them. You're not going to say "Paint, custom paint, custom paint for cars, how to apply custom paint", etc. You'd probably say "We offer custom paint for cars and trucks, and also sell Dupont, PPG, and many original equipment paints as well." Build the title of the website like you would a headline for a newspaper article about what you want people to read.

I hope this didn't come off a condescending, I just re-read it and realized it seems I'm telling you your site is horrible, it's not. The website I just took over was, our title was "..::myurl.com::..". It's taken 2 months to get things moving in the right direction on the search engines. Also, this is all in my experience and what I've read and think is true, but there is loks more (and maybe better) ideas out there. Don't take one persons word as gospel, make sure there's some evidence out there.

Have fun!

Your in the site reviews now so here goes,

Dont like the text on the front page, put it in a table each point in a separate row, dont have it all centered, and possibly have the table background a lighter colour with easier to read text on it, and have a subheading for each row to help the user deceide what he want to read.
I would like your menu system on the products pages repeated in the same place on the front page, and the front page links where the current menu is.

As above it appears that I am over critical, but I like the site, the graphics on the front page and nice and to the point, quick to load and has the products you want to sell or buy only one click away,
Nice work get it finished,
