Need to optomize for "Fishing Lures"
http://www.hawgbuster.com
I've been struggling with Google for some time, prior to the last dance I was able to get about 200 hits a day, I was optomized for "bass fishing lures". Then I did a little too much tweaking and got dropped down to 130 hits per day. It was easy for me to get a high rank for bass fishing lures because it doesn't have much competition, but what I really want to target is "fishing lures". Overture's tool shows that it gets uber high hits, but it also had a lot of good competition. Suggestions? Would it help if I moved my product pages into a subdirectory called "fishing-lures"? Maybe I should create a different home page, with a high keyword density for fishing lures, with only the links to the top level pages? |

Here is some tips...
-Change your title tag to have Fishing Lures in it -Put a space between home-fishing lures on the link at the bottom -Add the phase fishing lures a couple of more times -have some pitures with the name fishing-lures-1, fishing-lures-2, etc -Your MORE INFO links should be keywords instead of more info -Bold fishing lures -h1 tags fishing lures -your can rename your company logo .gif to fishing-lures.gif |

1. okay done, although "bass lures" and "bass fishing" does have a combo of "fishing lures in it"
2. I'm under the understanding that hyphens act as spaces 3. Before the last dance I added it a few more times to increase keyword density, and I think google saw it as spam and my ranking actually dropped 4. if change too many picture names won't google see that as spam... 5. okay changed 6. done 7. my title is already an h1 tag 8. that would be a bit gratuitous.. it's in my header row so I'll leave that alone for now thanks! |

HTTP://KEYWORDDENSITY.COM is a free tool - try it on your site.
I thought the PR was strickly from the links to your site. So if your PR dropped, it's a result of the links to your site. If Google God thinks your spamming, your PR would have a grey bar. My sites mostly are at the top 5 spots of Google, I have a couple of dozen. All .gif etc. are named after the keyword phase that I SEO the page for. I also put an H1 tag at the bottom of the page. Good Luck! |

Do you only use 1 h1 tag or do you use the h1 at the top and the bottom or even throughout?

Gail - I mean ranking as far as the positions of my targeted keywords, not PR ranking
seo guy - yea I only use 1 h1 tag... for the sake of aesthetics I don't want to throw any more huge h1 tags in there, would an h2 work? I'm using CSS to modify the default appearance of those tags. |
