looking for feedback on my site

hello all - I would very much appreciate your thooughts on my company's web site. The success of our web site is in fact vital to the success of our company (w/o having ecommerce - the competition gets over 70% of their work from the web) so any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated. My biggest concern is getting the home page ranked as high as possible.

the url is http://www.axleventures.com

our main keywords include today

business plan consulting
business plan advice
business plan funding
business plan services
startup funding

but I am thinking about changing to these higher ranking keywords

business plan consultant
business plan development
writing a business plan
venture capital funding

thank you

I think your site is generally pretty well optimised perhaps I can suggest two things:

1. Get more inbound links: this search on google 'link: www.axleventures.com' shows only 2 links to your site and Google is alot about popularity from sites of similar content.

2. You have a site map which is good because Crawlers cannot spider dhtml menus, you have text links at the bottom of the home page which is also good but same links on sub level pages too. Perhaps change the bottom page links on sub pages to point to pages like http://www.axleventures.com/business_plan.html so that you aren't only linking to the main pages.

Thanks for the idea regarding sub pages. I am surprised you only saw two links to my website, because I know that I am listed in at least a dozen places (google for some reason has not updated that in months for me). However, when I check the back links, there are 62 there.

google can be slow

a friend of mine added around 200 inbound links to his site and still Google said he only had 5, I think it took 3 months for that to get updated but when it did it had a big impact. If you've already got 60+ best just wait for Google.

Odd, when I do a search on link:www.axleventures.com the google result page shows 1-8 of about 62 links.

I'm curious to know why invariably one can only see 1/2 of all the back links (eg: of my 62, I can only see the 1st 31)

I think a major factor in PR is who your links are coming from. That is why it is important to get listed in the major Web directories (Yahoo!, dmoz.org, etc.). Google and other search engines find these Web directories to be 'credible' listings and assign greater weight to a Web directory inbound link then others. So get listed soon.

Ya - well I am listed in two places in both DMOZ and Yahoo. Google has not yet picked up the yahoo one and I just got my 2nd listing in DMOZ and have had both descriptions made much more SEO friendly...I guess we will have to see how much and when this will improve things.
