linking problems

So I've just put up a site map from my index page. The link to the SM is tiny it's not for users just for the spiders.

If you go to

www.britishcinemagreats.com

and look in the bottom left corner there's a little link to the site map. On this map i have links to all my pages in the site.

I'm now using traffic blazer to analsyse the site. It comes up with 99 broken external links (seemingly related to that site map)although they all work ok as I'm sure you'll see if you visit it. I mean what's it talking about?

Just don't understand.

I'm just starting my SEO and my learning curve is steep but it's GREAT I'm learning so much. Hope I'm not being a pain in these forums but I'm a sponge soaking up SEO!

Could someone have a look at the main page and then the link to the site map / the links on the site map and tell me what you think. Traffic blazer is warning me it will affect the spiders so I want to get it right.

It's confusing because all the links on that site map seem to work - but I'm a novice.

Cheers

Red face

Why don't you alter the page and make it useful to visitors? For one thing that'll actually help with your SEO, but it could also make it a useful page.

You say you are new to SEO, but I'm impressed that you intend to build a search engine friendly flash site. Nothing like setting yourself a tough target. Best of luck with that.

It shows all spaces with %20 (code page thing equivalent).

Some bots may have a bug with this.

This is rather quite an interesting topic that I have came across too lately in my travels. Now I speaking with the %20 WRT my URLs. Sometimes good will fail to transfer me to the correct page if the URL has a %20, and sometimes it will go perfectly. Basically, yes, do not use %20 if you can get around it.

got it sorted..cheers guys

JC - yeah that got me thinking...do you know how obvious it was - a space in one
of my folders that contained all the pages I was linking to. DUH.

Thanks guys.

Re the flash - I think a little is nice - like the main page for example - but someone
said don't sacrifice hits for flash.

Think that's good advice for a newbie...me.

Again thanks guys,

PJ - Belfast
