Well I've finally got around to re-making my old photo restoration site with some SEO included this time. It used to be made of frames and completely bombed when it came to ranking in Google.

It's here : http://www.thefourthsun.co.uk

I'd love some suggestions and comments about this site, I'm still learning so please let me know if I've made any colossal mistakes before google indexes it. There are precisely 0 backlinks at the moment but I'll be trawling for links over the next few days, if anyones interested I'll gladly swap links with you.

Just out of interest, would I be better off getting backlinks to the .co.uk or .com?

Thanks a lot everyone.

Tested in IE6 56k modem 800x600. Background is a little dull. Perhaps needs an extra splash of colour. Also might be nice if the links changed colour when the mouse is passed over them. Otherwise, a good solid design. Good luck with it.

Thanks for your replies guys.

When you say it would be nice if the links changed colour, do you mean the ones at the top or text links throughout the site?

Cheers:smile:

More and more people are using non-IE browsers, so you have to check your site in a browser that is the hardest to please. I use FireFox, and I have mentioned this a couple of time in this forum (and some may be getting sick of saying this). I viewed your site with FireFox 0.8 and only saw the header of your site.

In IE looks all fine!

You could use your css file a little more. You can take things like the td attributes and place them in the style sheet.

Also try and use external javascript files. The less non-content text you have in the page the better.

Other than that, it's great!

I just want to know one thing, where did you come up with that name??? Great name!

The links at the bottom are a bit unclear apart from that site looks really good.

My personal opinion a few years ago f*** other browsers I use IE and i havn't got time checking every individual page or making a seperate pages for each browser. I was like if people choose Netscape over IE and they dont like the site tough.

But more people are using linux and browsers like FireFox, which are great, mostly with these IE flaws people have decided to try something else. So webmasters these days are going to have to try in other browsers...

Thanks very much for your replies everyone, it's nice to know that there aren't any huge blunders on the SE front. I'm going to get around to moving the javascript into a separate JS file this week when I have time. I'm also going to download and install firefox this week to check compatability, I presume that this browser will co-exist with IE relatively happily.

The name took me ages to come up with, I went through all the usual, photo-fixer, photo-mender etc and not only were all the domain names taken, but they've got no character. I also wanted a name that didn't tell you what we did like "photo fixers", so I can use it for some other business ideas I have in the pipeline(just your wait it'll be a household name in no time).

So after a week or two of racking my brains for something I turned to my mums collection of books(and she has a lot) and found some incan patterns book. I looked in there are saw that there was stuff about the second and third suns, and as I'm the fourth SON in my family I figured it was a decent name.

Oh yes they co-exist quite comfortably! I can't see your site in FireFox 0.9.2 either, but 0.9.3 is out.

So you are the fourth son hey... ;)

Any ideas why firefox doesn't like my site.

I would guess that it's something in my CSS, I've declared a body style which is probably what's causing the problem?

Thanks for all your comments and help trouble shooting my site guys, you're the best!:-)

I've had a tinker and found the problem in the style sheet, the problem was that I was using display:inline and for some reason firefox absolutely hated it, oh well, the site should hopefully be viewable by 99% of the web surfing community now, but we'll have to see how you guys get on.

There were a couple of other minor modifications, for example, I couldn't get IE or FF to agree on where the top buttons should be positioned so had to extend the bground image a little. I've also moved all my javascript into an external JS file which has got to be a good thing.

Overall I think the site is more streamlined and most certainly better off for the modifications, thanks a lot people and let me know if you find anymore problems. I just hope that my DMOZ listing is going to come through before Xmas. Here's hoping.

Strange how such a small thing can totally destroy a webpage, I'll certainly be dual testing all my websites from now on. I'm hoping that I'll have an online shop developed in the coming months with PHP and mySQL, I'll be back for a site review without a doubt. Cheers people.
