Policy for email addresses ?

Can you give me your views on products such as
E_Cloaker spam-proof your mailto links
*** Maker Anti-Spam Script maker


A colleague suggested I use them but I’m not keen.

ASH (see previous post) had a big spam problem due to email addresses being visible on the website before I inherited it.

I have now removed them all and implemented the following:

• All contact channelled via ‘contact_us’ page
• Email addresses hidden in mailto: (not foolproof I know)
• All response to genuine email goes back with a non-web email addresses

This means, if need be, we can ditch the old email addresses once in a while. The problem email addresses now bounce back with a message saying the email address no longer exists – refer to website.


This appears to work. So far no spam and the occasional genuine caller that has an obsolete email address still finds us.

My time is split in many different directions at the moment. I am very loath to add yet more ‘tools and gadgets’ into the equation so your ideas on this would be appreciated. I can’t afford to waste time but on the other hand I am in the middle of another 3 websites with more to come. So I can’t afford not to look at something that’s necessary.

Oh and I hate those horrible forms to fill in. I personally don't bother a lot of the time if I have a choice of websites and more often than not I see problems with them. (Just a personal dislike!)

I use this on my site it is very simple and is not recognised by email harvesters. Just place the script where you want the link

Replace [ with <
