how would others optimize this page?
My DANSCARTOONS.COM has been respidered and now, by just typing in my first & last name, it comes up as #1 in Google rank.
My site (http://www.danscartoons.com) has many sub pages though and many are now popping up as separate page results, close to top rankings except a few. For instance, by just typing "pet cartoons" in Google, my page at http://www.danscartoons.com/pet_cartoons.htm appears as about the 4th listing. And by typing in "automobile cartoons" into Google, my page at http://www.danscartoons.com/automobile_cartoons.htm is #1 result. My question is, how can I get my http://www.danscartoons.com/business_cartoons.htm to appear in the listings? It is way way from the top and am wondering if anyone can recommend additional tips, tricks or techniques or should I just be patient & wait? Any constructive criticism? |

Hi Dan,
You are a GREAT cartoonist. I laughed like helI. One thing hit me right away - the cryptic "danscartoons" When I first saw it, dance came to mind, and not Dan's. I did a "Find", and "Dans Cartoons" does not appear on your index page. You might want to put Dans Cartoons on your page, maybe 2-3 times, and Dan's Cartoons on your page, maybe 2 or 3 times. You should be #1 for the search "dans cartoons". Now, you don't even show up for that, at all. Just a thought. You also might want to consider getting www.dans-cartoons.com. That would help a lot, I believe. Google can find the first and the last word in a URL that has all the letters running together, but in this case, you don't seem to have a "first" word. My 2 cents worth. Last edited by Surf-Dude : December 6th, 2003 at 08:35 PM. |

Having a bit less text on your home page could also help concentrate on your keywords.
Lots of words can sometimes hurt. |

Dan, you haven't done any internal anchor text optimization. For example, if you want the business cartoons page to be in serps for the phrase 'Business Cartoons' you must have the links on every page of the site to the targeted page with the same link text, that is- business cartoons. That will certainly help a lot. Your other pages are in serps for keywords like pet cartoons becaue the competition is lesser as compared to that of business cartoons. You can use the power of internal anchor text for all the keywords/phrases you are targeting. If even that didn't help in being on top ten, you can get links to the pages you want to top the serps with appropriate link text.
And once you have achieved good ranks for your niche keywords, you can target the likes of 'cartoons' for your domain name in the same fashion. Now that the lost index pages are reverting to good ranks, its safer to say that anchor text stil is the king. My two cents. Good luck. |

One more thing- you can use alt tags for the images.

maneesh, surf-dude & jocelyn: thanks
Jocelyn:
I have been confused as other websites with lots of text are still high on ranking for business cartoons but will try & optimize best I can. Thanks for kudos on my toons, surf dude. I didn't mean it to sound like "dance cartoons" but wanted to avoid having to use the apostrophe in DAN'S. My page comes up by just typing in first & last name though & that's all I care about. Maneesh: how does one go about adding alt tags for images...can you add further? Look at my code on page for business cartoons. And as for internal text optimization, I am assuming using more text words in the actual printed version of page that appears? Keep in touch...it's all very interesting. thanks, "dinrock" |

dont use gfx button on the left, try text links and use css and put your images into html files( dont link to .gif). And in these html files, give back link to your other pages( so put your navi).

Dan, anchor text is the text that acts as a hyperlink. If you see your homepage, the text 'Business' is the hyperlink that points to the business cartoons page. I was suggesting you to change this 'Business' link text (or anchor text) to read 'Business Cartoons' and this link should be present on as many pages on your site as possible (practically, there's no harm in having this link on every page of the site). To cut the story short, this should be the link to your Business Cartoons page-
<a href="http://www.danscartoons.com/business_cartoons.htm"> Business Cartoons </a> Hit 'Post Reply' button to see the code. The anchor text that we discussed here (that is, on sub-pages of a site, or 'internal') is internal anchor text. When the links from other sites point to your site, it's external anchor text. Alt tag- {img src="bla-bla-bla" height= bla-bla width =bla-bla <b>alt="Business Cartoons"</b>} Replace {, } with < and > |

You can also add a title to each of your text links, can also be helpfull.
For example the following link will look like this. <a title="Business Cartoons" href="www.danscartoons.com/business_cartoons.htm">Business Cartoons</a> Note when you hover with your mouse over the link it displays an alt tag? Add the title and it will have something similar to alt tag for images. {a title="Business Cartoons" href="www.danscartoons.com/business_cartoons.htm">Business Cartoons /a} Replace {} with <> By the way a Great site! Good luck! Last edited by rojo : December 9th, 2003 at 07:00 AM. |
