Help with KW

I'm having trouble with a very specific KW (Candles). This site generally does well with "kw candles" or KW KW candles", but I can't (and I've tried several things) seem to make it come up on just candles.

I know that "candles" maybe the generic term and that I'm getting more targeted hits with the "KW candles" type searches, but "candles" seems to be the main word people search for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, any comments on the design flow is cool too.

TIA,
WebSpinner

I'd like to see a more hierarchical "site map" would help with the crawlers as well as make navigation from subpages a little easier. Keep it under 100 links per map directory though. Also try using the kw "candles" in your anchor wherever it is relevant and that will help you a lot. Also if you have good relationships to your linking partners have them include kw "candles" in their backlinks to you and that will help dramatically.
Cheers

Interesting reply seo-guy.

What would you think the difference would be from the current index page layout (all page links listed) vs. a "site map". Any ideas on how it should differ?

Also, do you think I should have my link partners show the link as NJ CANDLE or NJCANDLE.

On the "kw "candles" in your anchor wherever it is relevant " do you mean the name of the link? I follow the old rule of link name and page name should be close or exact. IE: Scented Pillar Candles links to a page domain.com/scented_pillar_candles.html Any thought..

Thanks.

The current index page layout is not a site map, although it is very similar. I would keep the focus of the index page on sales of your product, keep it the same, however when you click through to the next page, say a buying page, that same links structure is not repeated, there is not reciprocal link back to the home page, a site map organized correctly would eliminate the necessity of having to have so many links on your home page as well increase the internal link ref by placinga link on every page either back to your index page or to your site map. Take this page for example: http://www.njcandle.com/1015_unscented_votives.html there is no backlink to the homepage or to a site map. If you created a sitemap (a true site map with no content just links) and hada link at the bottom of the page to that map than your user wouldnt be restricted to the few links on this page and you would also rank better by virtue of ease of navigation and more appropriate link structure. As far as your links with anchors the way you are doing it is fine except add "domain.com/scented_pillar_candles.html>scented pillar candles/a> doubles on on the ref without being spammy

TY..I will make the suggested improvements.

PS: On your site, did you develop the nav. menu? I've been looking for one I can control where I put it on the page. Can you share?
