Golf Anyone?

Hi all,

I started a site awhile agoand just wanted some advice. My site is golf oriented so like the subject suggests golfers may find it more interesting and hopefully even frequent it.

My site url is http://www.customscorecards.com

We allow users to customize a golf scorecard for any course in our database.

I have been lurking in the forums for awhile and think that my SEO is decent but just wanted a little more advice.

I am trying to target keywords such as SomeCity Golf Course. I attempt to do this be targetting the actual scorecard page for that course to its city, name and golf.

Anyhow...I think I have rambled enough....if you have any questions then please ask. I would love comments on SEO from anyone but if there are any golfers out there I would also love some feedback on that area of my site!

Thanks so much!
Kevin Abbink

Kevin,

Nice website and a very interesting concept! Looks like you have a lot of pages generated by PHP, suggestions below:

- Get a DMOZ listing, fork out $299 for a Yahoo! listing

- You have 4,980 pages indexed in Google, not bad! I would suggest changing the "Home" link to something like "Custom Golf Course Scorecards - Home"

- Also, for future reference try not to pass more than two variables via PHP.

Lots of luck!!!!

Tested in Mozilla 800x600 56k. Loads nice and fast. The cards themselves are presented well. However, I'm not a golfer so I don't find the content very exciting. Now if you had the score cards for Tiger Woods...

Nick

asmith and nickc

Thanks for your help and taking a look at my site! I really appreciate your time!

asmith...I had just a couple question for you.

Im trying with DMOZ....I wish it was that easy. Working on a low/no budget I am reluctant to pay for Yahoo! but would not mind if you think it is worthwile. What kind of increase in traffic/PR do you anticipate one could expect with a Yahoo! link?

Do you mean I should change the actual text in the link of my navigation area...that is way too big so I assume you mean something else....I just dont know what it is right now! Can you please clarify that and Ill get to it right away!

Thanks again for your help and suggestions!
Kevin

Hey Kevin,

DMOZ - Yes definitely try to get listed. (Don't submit your site more than once within 3 months.)

Yahoo! - I would highly recommend it, but I understand your budget constraints. From my experience the Yahoo! submission will help your site get indexed faster and will increase PR by at least one point. You don't have to be included, you could try to get a lot of inbound links from other sites to supplement the inclusion.

I would recommend saving $150 this quarter and get included by next, thats always a good way to do it.

Home Link - Yes I am suggesting switching your actual home anchor text to your home page to include your keywords. If you are using PHP i would assume you would have the functionality to modify an include file or something.

Best of luck!

- Andy
