Question Extremely low Google rank, and no page rank

hi everyone,

i'm new. its my first post. and to be totally honest i have tried reading a million e-books, searching the web, etc. etc., and always i find conflicting opinions.

i try them. i patiently wait, and i see little if any results to be honest.

so i decided to search for forums about google, and i thought this was a serious forum, and i saw a lot of help and advice from the community, and so find myself writing in the hope that some may shed some light on a couple fo google issues that i would like to ask.

i am technical administrator for 123powerpoint.com, a powerpoint product and presentation service related web site. we launched in april of this year, and despite initial traffic boosts, each week a steady and lowering number of users are visiting the site through search engines, and in particular Google.

in all honesty, Google is my first priority. i have my neck on the line and been given a time frame to improve traffic to the site, but i really dont know what else to do other than buy sponsored links which i've already been told is a no no.

the problem is that as a powerpoint and presentation service related site, whenever i search for
powerpoint templates
powerpoint backgrounds
photos
sound effects
music
fonts
or presentation services,

123powerpoint.com simply doesnt show up. its not just a question of improving position its a question of getting one, and certainly aiming for a top ten slot.

the site is split into various sections, and within each section i have tried to optimize the meta tags for the various one and two word search terms, but nothing has happened in Google.

i'm very nervous now that time is ticking, and i am still not able to push the site into the results pages and i can only think that i must be doing something terribly wrong.

i'm so tired now of all the conflicting advice which i have implemented back and forth and back and forth, and really would like to turn to people that are not trying to seel me doorway pages, or optimize the pages for 100 bucks each etc., i would like to get some first hand knowledge, advice, and help from users of the forum who have suffered similar problems, or users who are able to view some fo the pages and perhaps tell me what is wrong.

i am certain that you have problably read a hundred postings such as this before, and so i would like to take this opportunity to advance to apologise if it seems a repetitive subject. and ask only that you bare with me as a new user to this forum. i have tried everything else i feel other than asking for advice and help.

my sincerest thanks and gratitude to those able to spend any time in response.

sincerely,

KSGH

Three problems that jumped out at me before I even glanced at the words on your page.

1. www.123powerpoint.com works fine, but 123powerpoint.com brings up an error.
2. Your site is in frames.
3. You need more backlinks to your site.

You will need to apply the basics of SEO to this site before you will be able to compete.

Question

hi dazzlindonna,

thanks for your reply and your points

i have now fixed the server setting for 123powerpoint.com, but sadly i was not responsible for the development of the site.

i know that framed sites dont necessarily perform as well static pages, however i understood that if you basically copy the contents of the page and paste this within the <noframes> tag then Google has no problem indexing the site.

was i misled?

Hi, no you weren't misled, and the noframes tag is helpful for that purpose. However, I personally would never use frames - it's like inviting problems, as far as I'm concerned. http://www.google.com/webmasters/2.html#A1 - somewhere on that page is info about frames. In any case, you may be ok with using them, but you'd be better off not using them, imo.

Hi Scott,

I think you'll find there's lots of very helpful people here, I got some great help from people and my site is starting to do okay. I certainly don't claim to be an expert but here are a few improvements I would make to improve your SERPS.

1. Get rid of frames. I had a site in frames and it bombed in google, it might take a bit of rebuilding but the benefits are worth it.

2. Nothing to do with SEO but I'd get rid of that right click blocker. It's all down to personal preference but I've always hated sites with those, unless you have something incredibly valuable to keep away from the right button I'd give it the heave ho. It's up to you tho I think that you can place a layer over the entire page to stop people highlighting it, that's what I did on one of my pages to stop people nicking them.

3. Change the page title. It seems too long to me, how about "Powerpoint Templates Royalty Free". If you get rid of the frames as well you'll be able to target new keywords with each page, make sure you don't just have the same title for each new page.

4. Change the menu links from pictures to text if possible. If you can have "Powerpoint Templates" as text and in an H1 tag (which I believe google rates highly) it should be a good combination.

Anyway, if you have any more questions please ask, I'm sure that someone more knowledgeable than myself will chime in. Good luck

Every time I hit an internal link and even when I tried scrolling down the page I got an error message referring me to support@123powerpoint. Somethings wrong.

A few suggestions:

1. Replace:
Quote:

<title>Royalty free powerpoint templates and presentation resources</title>
with:
Quote:

<title>PowerPoint Templates :: Royalty free powerpoint templates and presentation resources</title>

2. Replace:
Quote:
<td colspan=2><a href="mainwindow.asp" target=mainwindow><img src="img/logo.jpg" width="297" height="197" border="0" Alt="123Powerpoint.com
PowerPoint Templates, PowerPoint Backgrounds,
Photos and Photographs, Sound Effects and Music,
Fonts and Typography, Presentation Services."></a></td>
</tr>
with: <
Quote:
td colspan=2><a href="mainwindow.asp" target=mainwindow><img src="img/logo.jpg" width="297" height="197" border="0" Alt="PowerPoint Templates, PowerPoint Backgrounds,
Photos and Photographs, Sound Effects and Music,
Fonts and Typography, Presentation Services."></a></td>
</tr>

3. Scrap "123powerpoint.com" in META tags as if you are indexed with SE's and you type it in you are going to be #1 anyway. Also, put the most important META tags first.

4. Scrap frames! (my opinion)

5. Get more Backlinks!

6. If keeping frames rename main.asp with something like powerpoint-templates.asp so its keyword rich.

7. Oh, before you make such changes, get some expert on here to confirm ...

Dan

p.s. welcome to the forum!
