Question Don't know which way to go...

Hi everyone, I'm a total newbie so you'll have to bear with me :-? .

I launched a site around 8 weeks ago, www.thefashionboutique.co.uk, and it's been indexed by Google and has just received a page rank of 3. But, it's nowhere to be seen for 'fashion accessories' or anything similar. Select keywords from the catalogue, like raffia embroidery (??!) come up on the first page but anything else is no-where to be found. I am in the process of re-doing the index page but don't know whether my change of tactic will help and I'd really appreciate some advice. I don't want to change it if it's going to send me back to first base. The test page can be viewed at www.thefashionboutique.co.uk/version_2.htm. Please note, this is a really RAW page - the formatting is not completed and there are no working links but it'll give you an idea of where I'm heading (basically more text).

Any advice whatsoever would be welcomed with open arms - not having done this before I don't really know which way to turn. Maybe I need to just concentrate on link-building and/or be a little more patient and wait see what happens.

Thank you

Gee...I'm so new here...

that others can speak much more knowledgeaby I feel...

but time is what you need. with a PR of 3 already after only 8 weeks and 22 links I see at g, y and msn...you've started off pretty well.

i note the new layouts and designs on the index2 page and think it's better aesthetically too...but remember to get it totally complete before you switch too...and I didnt' see a SITE MAP on that one...you'd best add one....g likes them!

whoops...just caught the site map link down at the bottom! good!

others will undoubtedly add more here....soon...

:-)

Thanks Jim!

Thank you for your reply Jim, patience isn't one of my strong points sadly . Thanks for your comments, I was quite suprised to get a 3/10 for my first effort so soon! My head cracked the ceiling when I saw it!! (doesn't take much to get me excited these days!!!)

Yes the sitemap will be included on the new index page. As you can see the page is nowhere near finished yet - missing text, no links, no proper formatting etc but I think, more text can only help the situation so I'm inclined to change over to this page as soon as its finished.

Thanks once again Jim.

Warm wishes,
Helen

Remember that if you concentrate on links (on other sites) pointing to your site and saying "The Fashion Boutique", then THAT is what you'll rank well for. You're going to have to build links using a selection of your favourite keywords/-phrases as anchor text (i.e. the underlined bit people click on).

You know, I hadn't even thought of that but it's so obvious that I feel daft. Thank you, I'll get right on to it.
