Hi all,

Im new to this forum, so id just like to say "hi" to everybody and thank Darrin for creating such a useful resource!

After "tweaking" my site for a few months now, based upon what ive read, watched, learnt... i appear to have fairly good listings on Google etc.

I was just wondering if anybody could be so kind as to take a peek over my site and tell me if i have made any glaring mistakes or perhaps these is something Im doing wrong altogether. I welcome your comments

The site is question can be found at: www.whitedog.co.uk

The keywords im targetting are as follows:

dms3 mod chip
lpc mod chip
ps2 mod chip
xbox mod chip
console repairs
ps2 laser

I also have another site which links extensively with the site mentioned above. This site can be found at: www.consoleinfo.co.uk

and will often be found in results for the same sets of keywords as this site targets the same users, but offers free information. Perhaps somebody could offer me advice on this site too.

Once again, thank you for creating this great forum, which although i dont post regular, i read VERY regular and appreciate all the work the admins and users put in

Bazza,
Your console info site is an excellent place to start expanding your content and soliciting links. As a resource page hundreds of people would be willing to link to such a site provided it had lots of up to date information and did not come off like a sales site. This will increase the PR of your whitedog site considerably as most of the external links for console sill go to whitedog. Also integrating a "site map" that is a little more accesible will help tremendously with the robots as well as your users. Remember the basics for your content site though ask yourself: am I offering something that will be useful and educational to my users? is the relationship between my info and my sales site intertwined to as to maximize relevance? Pay particular attention to your keyword density etc while maintaining quality content and you will rank very well
Cheers

Thanks for taking the time SEO guy

I agree the site needs a little more work as far as a site map goes etc. I will look very closely at that.

Now then... that problem I always seems to struggle with... keywords and density.

Can anybody offer a "standard" way of checking what my best keywords would be, then suggest a density for those keywords? Is there some kind of "process" i should follow, as I often seem to struggle with the keyword thing and I fear that is where I lose most results. I feel my current keywords are very "hit and miss" and not really as good as they could be.

Anybody got any suggestiond for "working out" good keywords and then incorporating that into pages?

Many thanks in advance

Baz

Tested in Mozilla 1.3 800x600 56k modem. Looks good and downloads nice and fast. The menu's and links don't rollover (not sure if they are supposed to). Nice design. Good luck with it.

Hi Bazza UK,

Nice work on the content....however...I am not sure what purpose it serves when I click on the left vertical nav links and all that shows up is page with content but no way to get back to the index page...
I would recommend that you have each page of your site be represented by your Header Logo on your index page....unless you are trying to force the user to make the next move with the 2 links you have at the bottom of these pages linked off your index page...monolithic navigation/logo header representing your brand or theme is the way to go on each and every page...
Keep adding focused theme-centric content and always work on those highly relevant inbound links from other resources....

good luck
decaff

Thanks for your comments chaps! Much appreciated.

I see what you mean about a link back to the index page. I will get to work on that immediately. Also, perhaps a site map would help a lot.

Thanks once again!

Anybody else got any advice to offer? Id appreciate it very much. Also, as far as keywords go, can anybody offer a sort of "process" to follow when researching good keywords?

For example, are people searching for "modchip" or "mod chip" etc. Also, are searches case sensitive?

Thanks in advance!

Bazza, have you tried Wordtracker, I think thats the name. I am sure someone will let me know if it isnt!

Basically you go the wordtracker website, sign up, and enter your main keyword, it then gives you alternatives.

Just a thought..

Darren

Thanks Darren,

Yeah, I have given word tracker a go, but only the free version. Is the "paid for" service any better? I found wordtracker a little confusing (call me dumb, i know!)... but it seemed to me that it gives advice on keywords, but initially you have to put a keyword in. So, i guess what im after is to find what the best initial keyword would be.

I know it would seem obvious what that should be, but users sometimes dont always search for the things that appear most obvious.
